I'm relatively certain there's a illegal immigrant thread, but this is a little bit more specialized. Do you, as an American (Who this discussion is obviously directed towards), think illegal immigrants deserve to vote for people in elections? I, personally, don't, mainly because A. I'm certain they'd simply vote for whoever promises amnesty, and B. There are people who aren't permitted to vote that I trust with decisions more than people who can barely (Or can't) speak English. If they were to allow illegals to vote, you should lower the legal voting age to 14 or so, I trust them more than people who don't know what a Republican is.

Wait? Has there even been issues of illegal immigrants voting or citizens vouching for illegal immigrants to vote?
I was just one few months short of being older enough to vote last presidency but correct me if I'm wrong don't you need to reveal your ID and status as an official citizen to even get your hands on a ballet or the knob/crank/whatever?
But yeah if they are "illegal immigrants" they shouldn't have the right to vote.

They absolutely should not have the right to vote, they're here ILLEGALLY. As a child of legal immigrants i find most of their arguments null anyways.

I'm certain they'd simply vote for whoever promises amnesty Well yah, people tend to vote in their own interests. Nothing wrong with that. However, they should not be able to vote. Becase they are not citizens. Simple as that.

No, they shouldn't be able to vote. Even legal immigrants can't vote, unless they gain American citizenship. My husband (an immigrant from Canada) can't vote, and he's a legal permanent resident and has been for years. He's also a proud Canadian.

There's a lot of problems associated with a non-American citizen voting, so it's a huge no.

Not that illegal immigrants ever would get to vote. Why in the world would they want to (aside from the Amnesty reason)? You have to register to vote and in doing so, provide proof of residence in the state you live in. That's just asking to be picked up by immigration.

NO. They are illegal for a reason. They aren't suppose to vote, they aren't suppose to be getting a driver's license, and they ain't even suppose to be here.
I'm sorry if that sounded harsh. I just have a thing against people who come here illegally, can't speak a lick of English, and then take my summer job away.

If they came here ignoring the proper channels, they shouldn't be allowed to vote. They shouldn't be allowed to get driver's licences. They shouldn't have any rights here at all. Moreover, though not completely on subject, but still related, I think people who want to come live here should first learn English, rather than forcing us to accomodate them and learn their language. That said, a large number of the people in this country who are legally able to vote either are registered and don't or aren't registered at all. Why should people who aren't even legally supposed to be here be allowed to vote, when there are so many who were born here or did follow the proper legal process to be here actively choose not to?

Moreover, though not completely on subject, but still related, I think people who want to come live here should first learn English, rather than forcing us to accomodate them and learn their language. Thank you. I'm cool with learning Spanish and all. I like the language. It's just when my teachers told me, that I was gonna encounter a few dozen hispanics in this country, I always thouht, Um, we're in America. We speak English here. Why do I have to speak their language to them while I'm still in the country? That's like saying that I have to speak Mandarin whenever I go to China Town. And frankly, they ain't gonna learn anymore English, if we keep giving them the Census Poll en Español. Don't worry. That goes for everybody: Français Italiano Deutsch Nederlands Русский (Russkiy) 日本語 (Nihongo) বাংলা (Bengla) The list goes on. So getting back on subject, America, is like a special credit card that you get at certain stores like Barnes and Noble or Nordstroms. If you are a member, you get special privileges. If you are not, you get squat.

*stands firm with Spirit Mage* Yes, we live in America, you could at least learn the language that the country has made their national language. I feel the same about traveling elsewhere. I'm not going to run around assuming people speak english in Tokyo, Bangaladesh, or Cairo should I ever move there. And if you're a tourist, we make phrasebooks for a reason!! We should almost be more like Costco (using Spirit Mage's analogy of cards) Wanna come here? get a freakin membership! Because all of the illegal border hopping is irritating. Yeah, American is a tough language, but ya know what? everyone that's American speaks it! So no, they shouldn't be able to vote whatsoever. I run my ballot Independent, and I still feel very strongly about this. *is on rant mode, sorry*

The English that we speak is different from the English that people in England speak, so to differentiate, I call it American.

I'm pretty sure it's just a different accent, and a few different words.
