(I may sound like a nut), but the next major war that the United States will experience is the Second Civil War.
Now, don't drop dead or anything; there is method to my madness.
First off, people are really divided right now, WAY more divided than they've been in a LONG time. Political parties, especially the Democrats and the Republicans have polarized onto the opposite ends of the spectrum, and very little gets done about anything that needs it, simply because one side refuses to compromise. Because of this, and because of the pressures of today, a split will continue to occur between parties and between people.
The rapid influx of immigrants is raising every year. While we are the greatest country in the world, and have the highest living standards on average (if that's not right, correct me), this cannot last forever. Eventually, the population will be too large for the standard of life we have today. The standard of living will go down, and people in the middle class and the upper class will get pissy.
I believe that this will begin the Second Civil War. The splits between rich and poor, Democrats and Republicans, Whites and Blacks are WIDENING, not getting smaller, as everybody would love to believe.
I may be wrong, but I think that I've got more evidence than most. ^^

Second civil war? Nah.
Widening gaps of social trends really wouldnt lead to a war.
Perhaps if the Republicans just started to bombard the democrats with taxes just for existing that may lead to a few ethical issues, but to be honest, the United States is too much on a leash to go emo and start hurting themselves.
There might be some civil unrest, maybe necessitating National Guard or martial law, but the whole nation wouldnt join up in arms to help the suppressed victims of martial law. I dont know why exactly, maybe because the supreme court would stop them, our army is more disciplined than that, and that... well... its just not American.

We've had MUCH more serious divisions (See: Vietnam) and the WORST this is going to get is a couple riots, tops.

^Agreed. I could see a few riots during protests gone bad but the political division is mostly emphasized by the media. People, truthfully, don't care so much about politics. Yes, it makes for provoking discussion, but these days, nothing more. The ratio of people eligible to vote in comparison with those who actually do is considered disappointing. Not that voting actually makes a difference. And as far as the racial gap goes, yeah, it's still there. Is it still widening? I'd say im some places yes and in others no. I go up north, people have no problem saying "Hi, how are you?" I come back home and it's a paranoid side glance meaning "please don't come near me." Overall though, it's a heck of a lot different now than it was 50+ years ago. If anything, there's more racial tension between Blacks and Hispanics as the two constitute the larger portion of the lower class and ultimately end up competing over jobs, neighborhoods, and cell space. I still say our next major war is somewhere in the Middle East.

I really don't think we'll have another MAJOR war. Unless it goes like Endwar, and we develop a system that renders nukes useless, all that can happen is some country threatens/uses ICBMs or bombs and we nuke them into submission. "We" being Britain, U.S., France, Russia, etc.
We will never see a ground war like WWII ever again. Iraq, IMHO, is more of a revolution resulting from a badly handled occupation. More of a counterinsurgency then a war. A war implies both parties are on equal terms.

I still say our next major war is somewhere in the Middle East. A social gap would just lead to a heightened level of gang wars. More of a widespread hatred. I certainly wouldnt mind seeing a whole line of blacks and hispanics lining up shoulder to shoulder in a large field somewhere and marching towards each other with like 2 bullets, a pistol, and knives drawn. The next major war will more than likely be with a middle eastern country. But Im hesitant to say a major war. Mostly because Ive always seen a war as like an army fights another army and then someone wins. But it seems like more and more its just America blowing up EVERYTHING outside city limits, and then just playing peacekeeper/targets for the local guerilla force. I see a war as like the other side being able to hold their own with their military, but lets face it, hardly any nation in the world right now who has a chance against America. And I stand by that.

There will ALWAYS be ground wars. and we always have some way of baffling everybody that says things like that with some wacked-out technology. every time.

What if the next major enemy for America, is in fact America itself? What if something happens where the entire nations forms into factions and starts a new civil war? Should America be on the look out for any kind of signs of a civil war?
