I agree with what most of you have said -- I don't think religion should be a deciding factor (or much of a factor at all) in starting and maintaining relationships.
Rejecting someone outright just because they don't share your beliefs not only comes off as intolerant, but arrogant, as well. Christianity teaches, as concreteangel said, that a Christian should not be in a relationship with a non-Christian. I find this quite offensive. At the Christian-oriented camp I attend, one of the teachers told a girl that she could not date a Jewish boy, not only because he was Jewish, but because the male was supposed to be the head of the religious household and dating preceded marriage.
Things like that drive me absolutely crazy. I don't think that someone's religious beliefs should interfere with who they have relationships with, whether they be romantic or platonic. If you can be friends with someone who doesn't share your beliefs, I don't see why you can't start something more.
I agree with Gran. Relationships between theists and atheists can work out, but only if they're between tolerant and non-aggressive people.
