My only question is why the heck was she feeling his scar if she was suppposted to be healing it? That makes no sense what so ever.

Actually it does, she was probably checking out what she had to deal with.
Or she was totally trying for a freebie. "Oh Zuko, your skin is kind of dry. Maybe you should try this lotion I use for my hands"

Looking at how Zuko's developed during the series and what actions he's already taken I have to agree with Amira that Zuko still would've joined Azula even if Katara had taken his scar away. I actually think he would've had a stronger urge to join his sister with the scar being gone because then his physical dishonor would be no more. Without dishonor plastered on his face I think he would've felt returning home would be easier. He would've been thankful to Katara of course...but his dislike of Aang and his need for familial acceptance would definitely override any sort of compassion toward Katara. Zuko is a guy who defines himself by his honor and the bonds of family are stronger than those of enemies/friends. After all in ancient and modern day China the bonds of family and taking care of one's parents when they are old are considered extremely important. Someone who defies their parents is immediately showing disrespect and, according to Chinese law (because it's illegal not to show filial affection, but I think only in ancient times, though I could be wrong) he or she would be punished severely. Zuko's whole philosophy seems to greatly revolve around this Confucian ideal and it would have been against his own beliefs, against who he is, to have not taken the chance to regain the respect of his father (though I wonder if he ever had it in the first place).
Anyways, I'm just saying that Zuko's want to redeem himself in his father's eyes would've been strengthened by the healing of his scar and he would've gone with Azula just as willingly (getting the admiration of Ozai wouldn't be possible if he joined Aang or stayed on his own with Uncle).

I think she was checking to see if healing his scar was even do-able. Like Zuko said, "It's a scar. It can't be healed." So she was simply examining it.

I doubt that he would have joined Azula. If Katara had healed his scar and then Aang came in directly after they finished healing it, Aang would have been entering just as Azula was entering, I think. This is if they kept the same time scheduale. Azula would have had to try to convince Zuko while Aang, Katara, and Uncle were all fighting her.

I really think it's pointless to try and figure out what would have happened if Aang hadn't come in. There are so many possibilities, for all you know Aang being late or whatever would have changed the course of fate and so the world might have been destroyed. You never know.

yeah, but i think zuko would have had his scar healed anyway if he hadnt sided with azula. if he sided with the gaang, they would have easily beaten azula and aang probly wouldnt have been hurt. that was the whole point of zuko and aang's paths choosing the fate of the whole world. so, katara probly wouldve healed his scar for him later on.
and yeah, i think katara was just checking out his scar before healing it.

yeah, but i think zuko would have had his scar healed anyway if he hadnt sided with azula. if he sided with the gaang, they would have easily beaten azula and aang probly wouldnt have been hurt. ah, but you forget, Azula had the loyalty of the entire Dai Li on her side. I'm still not sure if the gaang would have been powerful enough, even with the addition of Iroh and Zuko. Basically, the way I think of it, it's not Aang or Zuko's fault. It's only natural that Zuko sided with Azula, because no matter how compassionate Katara is, he will always be holding on to that hope of his father's love. Seeing Aang again reminded him of that hope. the fault lies with Azula. She saw her opportunity and seized it, and she probably would have done the same even if Zuko had been healed. feel free to disagree. and sorry to speculate, but i think it will take Ozai openly shunning him to his face before zuko would ever consider helping aang. he hasn't fully accepted the truth yet... and just to be on topic, yes, I think katara was inspecting his scar ^_^
