I don't know if this should be here, but... This has been bugging me for a while. Here is the scene we got when Katara was trying to heal Zuko's scar: If you can see, Katara is holding the water in her left hand and touching Zuko's scar with her right. She did not take the water out. Here is what it looks like when Katara healed Aang at the end of the episode: Just like every other time she has healed someone, she took the water out. Was this just a mishap? Or something more?

She was'nt trying to heal him at the time. She was simply touching his scar and cheek.

Yeah, I'm with bittersugar101. Plus her not doing anything while touching his scar made it a perfect time for Aang to interrupt the moment. It was somewhat disappointing but if she had healed his scar, Aang would've croaked.

If she had healed his scar, maybe Zuko would have made a different choice, thereby meaning Aang never got shot in the first place. O.o

I know, what a dumb cracker. Though technically...ALL of it is Azula's fault. Back on topic, she wasn't trying to heal him yet, because he hadn't said "Yes" or "No." I'm not sure why she touched his scar, or why he let her.

She was just touching his scar. But what confuses me, is why did the water disappear when Katara healed Aang? Its water, it's not supposed to vanish into thin air!

Because it would be cheap if she had this endless supply of superwater that could heal anything. It's a one-time-deal because it's so special.

Ok, but I don't really understand why she was touching his scar. Maybe she was going to take the water next? I don't know.

Touch is a popular method of comfort. Song tried it, but Zuko hadn't gone under enough change for him to allow himself to break down that wall and let someone in at the start of the season. The scene was pretty much Zuko's character development climax before it all came crashing down. Also helps set up lots of possible conflict for S3.

Well, I for one am happy that Katara didn't heal Zuko's scar, because then she couldn't have healed Aang.

*sigh...* Oh well, Zuko looks wayyyyyy too cool to have his scar removed- it's a part of his character, like Toph being blind. But still. It should happen. And then he changed from semi-evil to... not as evil.

I think that maybe she was assessing the situation, as it were? Just getting an idea of exactly what she was dealing with before trying to perform the healing. Or maybe reassuring Zuko that she wasn't trying any funny business that would harm him instead of heal him. His closing his eyes was sort of a silent acceptance of her offer - and it's significant he actually let her touch his scar, something he wouldn't let Song do (or anyone else, as far as I know). Hopefully Zuko will come around and actually be nice to our GAang!

It is weird why she just touched him... not that I'm complaining. It helped to create the climax of the scene -with all and the music background- In the transcripts of Avatar Spirit in the stage directions says "Katara places her hand on Zuko's scar and examines it", so I'm keeping with that explanation, it's the most logical one, I mean, what other exists? It also says that "Aang stares at Zuko and Katara, confused by how close they are", not that it has anything to do with this, I just felt like sharing it with you guys. I think that maybe she was assessing the situation, as it were? Just getting an idea of exactly what she was dealing with before trying to perform the healing. Hopefully Zuko will come around and actually be nice to our GAang! I agree with everything but being nice to the entire gaang. I can picture Zuko being nice at Katara, in a certain situation, but it would be kind of hard that that would happen with the rest of the kids. At least no until the last chapters of Book 3 -if everything turns out as we hope-
