Oh, that’s interesting theory you quoted Amira. I agree with the poster in the sense that the Avatar State is kinda of a super power up (to be honest, it seems like all Aang would have to is glow it up and he would win) and from the comics it seems like previous Avatars didn’t have to go through charka training. I would've believed that the Avatar cycle was gone and broken if Aang's arrow didn't glow up right after Katara revived him with the Spirit Oasis water. That could've been a manifestation of what was left of Aang, like the spirit or whatever. I guess the Avatar State/Cycle is just disrupted like Avatar Yangchen said in the final Spirit World comic. She also said to rely on your friends which is one the things fandom (not anyone in particular) think he does to much. Hn. I would like a Kataang sig. Where can I find one? distanthorizons.proboards31.com/index.cgi?board=avs

Gah. There are times when ImageReady is my best friend and it plays nice and does what I want it to. There are also times when it decided to make my life a living hell.
ImageReady today has decided to make my life incredibly difficult again and not cap screenshots DX. So that means no animated icon ><
I'll still make an still one if anyone has a suggestion XD

Exactly. The other Avatars probably had to go through different methods of learning how to control the Avatar State. You could say that even though the methods may have been different for each, the result/lesson would still be the same. If we take this into account, then all Aang really has to do is learn how to control his emotions, instead of allowing his emotions control him. That's the reason why mastering the Avatar State was so crucial. He needs to control it, or else he'll risk hurting those who are closest to him and innocents. Most likely, since the interview did say that the Spirit World Comics are part of the Avatar dogma. I think the problem that people in the fandom may have with the "rely on your friends!" comment is that they want Aang to successfully defeat the war on his own, with his own power and his own abilities, which I must admit is something I'd really like to see him do. I'm not saying that he doesn't have to have his friends there to help him or that he doesn't need their support because it's quite the opposite. His friends can be there to help him, fuel him and give him the hope to defeat the war, but he can also defeat his own battles without having to rely on The Gaang to have his back. (Of course, the Gaang will always have his back but, yeah) I hope this somewhat made sense. xD @frozen: You should make a still icon from that scene that I suggested! with a scriptive font on the icon saying "Kiss the girl" <333 Or just make general Kataang icons since ImageReady is being evil to you. *dangles a karma*

Well from what I have seen from the Avatar game all of the past Avatar's and Aang lives knew and were aware of the consequences of love, and so was their mate. The true meaning of love is compassion is to be able to withstand obstacles (Fights, Family, etc.) In this case it is that Aang is afraid Katara will get hurt, and because of his commitment to the world.
From what I have seen Katara wouldn't just stand around and let Aang do this alone, she is the one who freed him from the iceburg and as Gran Gran said in the pilot "Your destinies are intertwined". Aang's "responsibility" is now also in the hands of Katara, and even if it wasn't, she would still be willing to help.
We have seen Katara and Aang interact, and even though it has mostly been positive even during the negative times they were able to withstand it and get back on track. Keep in mind the interaction between Zuko and Katara was not able to do this, and thus is why I do not see Zutara happening.

Even though Aang CAN do it alone, Katara would never let him. She would have ran away in COD to go find Sokka and Toph (like they were on their way to do in the first place) and let him fight Azula and Zuko alone, but she didn't. Katara will NEVER make him face something like that alone.
I have a feeling that she'll even want to help him defeat the fire lord, but that's when Aang might come in and say 'I need to do this. Alone.'

But I do think Aang NEEDS to do this alone, facing the Fire Lord is his destiny, his fight and he'll want to keep Katara out of there. He doesn't want her to get hurt.

He would be too focused on keeping her out of harms way to actually defeat the fire lord.
Besides, this is the battle that will help Aang realize that he IS the avatar, and that this is what he needs to do.

I don’t think the way the Avatar learned really matters but if they comprehend the lesson. And I think all Aang needs to do to learn his lesson is not let his emotions cloud his judgment and actions. Hmm, I think that’s party why I want the Avatar State to be gone in the end. I mean, I want Aang to learn what he can from it but if it’s gone Aang, not the Avatar, is going to be the saving the world. As for relying on his friends, I think if that was the only thing he did I would agree with them but it isn’t really. I think Aang knows (or is learning I guess) when to ask for help and when to fight his battles. To be more Kataangy, Aang is Katara’s hope so I think it’s safe to say the “rely on your friends” thing is mutual.

She relies on him as her hope to save the world and he relies on her for support when he does. Oh, this is for all the Kataangers, but if you find some great fanvids, then link me to put them in the list.

Besides, this is the battle that will help Aang realize that he IS the avatar, and that this is what he needs to do. I agree. Fighting Ozai is Aang's battle and Aang's alone. He'd probably tell her to help out the rest of their friends fighting Azula or whomever else. Or to be more Kataangy, he could say "Wait for me on the otherside." Then Katara will be all "*Sigh* Nothing else I can do but wait. It's okay though, I'll wait for you as long as it takes" Plot bunnies ahoy!Hmm, I think that’s party why I want the Avatar State to be gone in the end. I mean, I want Aang to learn what he can from it but if it’s gone Aang, not the Avatar, is going to be the saving the world. I agree. He probably knows when to ask for help and when he can fight his own battles. That idea is probably mutual between the two. Aang is Katara's hope and Katara is Aang's hope, probably the strongest source. So they fight for each other, how cute. ^^ @kohana: I'll go looking for some fanvids right away!
