I put this in the General Discussion because this is more about the origins of the theory than the theory itself. If a mod feels this is misplaced feel free to have it move. Anyway, I am consistently amazed at how far spread the OmaxShu = ZukoxKatara theory has spread. Any Zutara fan worth their salt seems to have great faith in it. Just how did this theory begin? Was there one famous person who began it? Did Mike and Bryan suggest it? Any info is appreciated, I'm just amazed its so far spread

Many Zutara fans think this because Oma and Shu both wore red and blue robes, I am no Zutara fan but I think that is my best guess. I also think that many people consider this foreshadowing for later episodes and the relationship and bond between Katara and Zuko.

well, theres a bunch of reasons how that came along.
~one of them was wearing blue and the other was wearing red. (maybe a symbol of water and fire nations. people in the FN usually wear red, WT members wear blue.) ~they couldnt be together because their villages were enemies. (in zuko and katara's case, their nations are enemies.) ~in the song it said "a war divides their people..." (same case with zuko and katara.)
i think thats it. there might be more , tho, that i'm forgetting. ;D just another little zutara hint...

Well thats one reason for the theory (albeit a rather small one IMHO) but how did it get such a mass following??

i guess it got such a large following b/c people thought it was a great story, and really interesting. it's all about looking at possibilities i guess...and using the imagination.

I'd say it's all the symbolism, and the war dividing their people-thing.
I don't quite get it.

If you listen to the music during the beginning of Katara's narration of the Oma and Shu story and the music played when she touches Zuko's scar it sounds exactly the same. This is reminiscent of how Four Seasons the instrumental version played during Sokka and Yue's first kiss scene.

It's an interesting idea with a lot of nice symbolism, but I think the Zutarians are just reading too much into it...that said, it being proved true is about the only way Zutara is likely to occur in season three...that or Zuko and Katara sharing a highly intense, life-altering experience far from outside influences...ie Aang.

If Zutara would happen, it would be like Oma and Shu. Two fighting factions, two people suppossed to be enemies falling in love. It's not as much an evidance as it is the fact, that it is the same "enemies become lovers" idea. That's all. It mmy also show resemblance to TyLeexSokka, but Zutara is just the most prominent shipp. So here ya go.^^
I think the best argument for Zutara to happen is their common past. They show many similarities and are compassionate enough to care for it as seen in the season 2 finale. Both characters connection to their mothers was shown often in canon and proved to be an important part of their development. So I would see this more as a reason for Zutara, since it makes it atleast possible.

I'll only see it as significant if they pull a Yu-Gi-Oh-esque move and make Katara and Zuko reincarnations of Oma and Shu.
I'd also probably stop watching Avatar after that.

I think this has potential but isn't quite in the right forum. Moved to Relationships.
