After re-watching Imprisoned, I have completely fallen for Haru all over again. ;D I only saw Imprisoned once- but seeing an episode twice does wonders...that make one want to re-clarify and add some reasons why one may like a character!
But first: darn that old man. Darn.him.
Next: Yes for old man. ;D If it weren't for him getting Haru captured by the Fire Nation, the other prisoners on that horrible, horrible ship wouldn't have escaped.
But: Still; darn old man.
Harus such a sweetheart. I really like how he described Earthbending as being the closest way to being near his father emotionally. Although he may be late with his chores sometimes, XD, he really loves his dad, and it's refreshing to see a character practice a bending because it brings them closer to their loved one.
((Plus, the voice actor for Harus father is AWESOM!!! *Ahem* X3))
Haru had to really change his role around the household with his mom, when his father was taken. That's not exactly an easy thing to adjust to, and I find him very intersting, as he had to take the role of the 'man of the house', even though he did not want to *more than likely* and was probably a bit young for that. Even if not, it is probably hard to go from 'boy' to 'man' so quickly in duties. It's clear throughout the episode that a lot of responsibilities are disagreeable to him, but he still continues to do them, with the thought that it is best to. He does what he must even when he doesn't want to.
That's pretty strong, in that sense. :3
I also think it was pretty great how he saved that old man, despite the pressure of keeping his bending a secret. As it came into play; he didn't even know the old man, and it was possible he would turn Haru in to the Fire Nation. Katara urged him, yes, but he didn't have to listen, and yet he did. And the smile on his face after knowing his bending helped someone; he looked real proud. And I quite admire still the friendship he and Katara shared for a brief time: they could really understand one another.
Oh! Which brings me to the previous scene just before the one above: I liked seeing both Katara and Haru share a bit of their past, and their pain. That part: "It's not enough, is it?" That played very well, and was very deep. It sort of showed, hopefully the younger audience caught it, the universal feeling: of having an object that belonged to someone you cared for not being 'enough', because it isn't them,yet- sometimes, that's all you have. Also in that scene, I felt that Katara and Haru had a mutual respect for eachother, along with a budding friendship. It's not just because they've been through a similar situation, but because of the shared feelings they have toward that situation: of bending and objects being the closest thing to what you want, and having to deal with many different circumstances, even when you don't want to, and surviving consequences of war that can leave you weak if you let it...Those feelings they have toward such things; they were similar feelings. That's one reason why I think they got along so well.^^
Break in long post (a funny bit):
((One line in that episode, when Sokka was questioning if Aang remembered what he was supposed to do:
Aang: Yeah yeah- just relax. Your taking all the fun out of this.
Sokka: By 'this' do you mean intentionally being captured by an army of ruthless firebenders?-_-
Aang: Exactly. That's fun stuff!
Aw man, cracks me up everytime..*Giggle giggle snorkle* XD And Kataras expression when she makes fun of Sokkas ears...Plus, Momo Earthbending?? And his big ears! XD Oh, this episode was price...::heart:: X3
Tyro: Here, it's not as bad as it looks.
Katara: *Bleh* XD
Tyro: It's still pretty bad though. ^^;
Too many great moments...XD How come people don't enjoy this episode so much? It has a sweet boy, grand storytelling, escape plans and comedy- what more...? Aw, *shrug*, it appealed to my taste anyway. XD))
End of Loooooong Break. XD
Because of Haru as well (or one reason as Haru) we were able to see a new side of Katara. She gave a very touching speech of courage, and the viewer was able to get a glimpse of how other nations describe, or may view eachother: through storytelling. I know it made me wonder; what stories did the Water Tribe used to tell, in peaceful times, of each Nation? What stories did the Fire Nation tell? It was great to see a side of Katara- in this situation- that spoke out for the "underdog". XD And she gave Haru a lot of hope.
A key point I also saw throughout the episode was, even though it took moments, Haru did listen to Katara, and in turn Katara listened to him when he needed her to. (And, come on, not everyone listens to Katara in the end. XD Even though they should at times...) That really works for Karu, because I have the feeling Haru would listen to Katara enough for her to trust him to take her seriously. On the flip side, Katara would listen to Harus stories with intrest, and not a 'yeah, mm hmm' sort of attitude. XD (And his dad would probably approve *cough cough* XD)
((That Warden sucked. But his voice actor was in Mulan! XD Yeah man.))
I also enjoyed seeing Haru branch out and take Kataras words as one support, and stomp those Fire Nation soldiers with his father! It was great seeing all the Earthbenders find the self-eestem to fight, and I still ponder if they would have if Haru hadn't stepped up and knocked the Wardens head.
"Don't worry, I hear cowards float"- p@wnage. XD
So, to kind of wrap it up..XD I still felt an odd emotion when Haru said: "I just wish there was some way..." I really think he was going to finish it by saying: "...you could stay." But Katara cut him off: "I know". Maybe because she couldn't bear to hear him say it? ::hope:: XD It almost seemed like courting, in a way *how I wish it was...*
Although Haru and the other Earthbenders are going to take back his village, it's possible Aang and gang could cross that village again, and discover a clue to something, or maybe the Earthbenders will be stopped by other Firebenders and decide to fight in the war. I really think Haru will show up again- even if it's brief, before the end.
I really hope so. I think the relationship between Katara and Haru is simply fascinating, because it's...so mutual, in a way, and refreshing and just...so nice to watch. Although I will admit Harus story seemed so 'wrapped up', it's possible he won't come into play again. But in my fanny-Mcfanfic mind, he remembers the words of the girl who showed him courage, and sets off to find her when he's older...
Yeah. Fanny McFanfic does me swell. XD
Plus, Haru was ze hots. Yeah, I saved that for last so it wouldn't seem as fangirly in the beginning..XD
Anyway, ze rant on Imprisoned, Haru, and Karu! :3 This relationship, to me, is just as fascinating as Kataang.^^ I may take it over Kataang on some levels, and Kataang on others...
And please, no 'Zuko has kataras necklace!!111!!1!' okay? The Zutara thread can have that. XD
Karu: I bear the ship of hope! >D
Edit: I must be so weird: Karu and Sokkla are the ships I'm nuts for right now (Maiko, Soko and Kataang as well but...)
Karu and Sokkla!!! These two ships are brillance- Am I the one-man show in supporting them (and me with Jet?) XD Oh, well, I have strange tastes compared to the majority...Leave me alone >( Two favorite ships right now...XD
Edit Edit: *After re-watching a THIRD time* Man- I love this episode!! And a new plot-bunny formed: You know how Tyro said that they all owed Katara much? Maybe that will come into play: Haru and Tryo and the other Earthbenders may come back to help Katara, Aang and Sokka with something. It's so obvious...! This gives it a lot of hope-
Yeah man!! I am supporting Haru and Karu until the end! It gives you an insane amount of plot bunnies...@_@ (And whatever about he's boring- the dude is a sweetheart and gentle, by golly! That's my sort of guy. )
Edit 3: *coughcough* Notice how you don't see Kataras face when she tells Haru she can't come with him...*coughcough* XD
