Anyways, I'm a long time civver who's been playing these games since the very first Civ game. There are many mods that I've wanted to make for this game, and Avatar has become one of them.
Right now its just me and another guy (who has also wanted to make an Avatar mod for Civ4). We could use all the help and support we can get!
My hopes for this mod will be to contain four different civilizations (Air Nomads, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Water Tribes), a fully-custom Tech Tree (going from the beginning of the Avatar world up until Sozin's second comet), new custom Civics, Resources, Religions, etc.
What can you do? Why, you can play any of the four civs in anyway that you'd wish. Ever wondered what it'd be like if the Air Nomads survived? What if the Water Tribes were a horde of invaders? What if the Avatar were to die before Sozin's First Comet? All this will be able to be played out!
((As for Avatar technicalities ... that's sure to be one of the biggest hurdles for this mod))
I'll be forward and honest with you all: I couldn't mod my way out of a paper bag; that's how bad I am at it! What I do know how to do is organize ideas (which is integral in any Civilizations mod) and map-make. So I've been putting my map-making skills to the test by mapping the Avatar World (Huge world, Flat).
Here is some of my progress:
South Pole
Southern Air Temple and Kyoshi Island
Western Air Temple and some Earth Kingdom Islands
Here's the Avatar world map as a reference:
For the time being, I'm simply setting up this map for four civilizations: Indians (Air Nomads), Chinese (Earth Kingdom), Japanese (Fire Nation), and Native Americans (Water Tribes). Once this mod gets rolling, these real-world civs will be transformed into Avatar world civs
Of course, this mod isn't trying to be set-up as a single map scenario. This mod SHOULD be allowed to be played on any kind of map you wish for!
If you want more details on this Civ4 mod, give me a holler. I'll be glad to post what I can up here. For the moment, I'd rather only present only a few details, as I need to discuss most of the mod concepts still with a civ modder on civfanatics.
I'm still probably jumping into things much too early. I really want this mod to build up some really early interest before saying anything on www.civfanatics.com/
If this mod really does get going, don't expect any real custom content for awhile. From my last Civ4 mod experience, a lot of time was spent on editing the Tech Tree, Improvements, and Civilopedia files. It can be real difficult finding modellers and skinners willing to make custom units for these kind of mods.
