This... is.... AMAZING!
*karma*
Absolutely astounding. I haven't seen fanwork that has REALLY impressed me since those 3-D color oragami figurines.
Seriously, I don't see why Mattel doesn't release the regular action figures for their younger demographic and collectors additions for the older fanbase.
And besides, when I was really little, I had lion King toys. But I didn't just want Simba and Scar, I wanted EVERYONE. To the point that I had parents searching from store to store looking for Simba's mom. ANd no one even knew her name!
...it's Sarabi, by the way...

Yeah, you know places like Borders Books and Music require that you take an in depth test to see if you have knowledge of literature both past and present to make sure you know abou the product you're helping customers find. I suppose Toy stores aren't as prestigious. Anywhoo... I wanted to save the big reveal of Zuko's head for later but since I haven't had the time to work on the project in a while, and I hate to have a whole page of this thread go by without some significant post, I shall give you some pics... ... ... ... Now.When I started off the first mold I made of Zuko's head, it didn't cure right and it created a freaky, mutant Zuko face. Funny- but annoying when it became obvious I'd have to start over again. The second mold made better casts. Then it was on to sculpting the hair. I love doing hair. You can be random with it, rather than having to sweat the accuracy of a face sculpt. You start by putting a blob on the head (no, it's not a beret) and add rolled snake-shapes to it to start the locks. The best way to make it look as spikey as it is on TV is to keep adding layers that build up to the crown of the head. They're always be a little difference in the translation from 2D to 3D, but you just have to work it until it's as close as it can be to the animated version. Of course I'm lucky to have lots of pics for reference at AvatarSpirit.net: Next I had to take a neck pin from Sokka (since the torso is cast off of him and the neck pin's from Mattel are custom sized to fit the indiviual bodies) and put it onto Zuko being careful to sand it down to the right height: And here he is so far: Kinda like a museum bust right now. I still have to add his raised collar to the neck of the torso. I also have to buy more silicone and wait until they mail it to me. But after that, we'll be back on track. Hope you like it so far and thanks for all the encouragement.
