While Nokoro and Chief Konaro were waiting for the official to bring the steel cage, they talked a little about waterbending and the hidden war scrolls.
One day, when I'm skilled enough, could you teach me how to control people like puppets by waterbending the ample amount of water within them?, Nokoro asked Chief Konaro as his cheeks became pink with embarrassment. He had always wanted to learn how to do that move ever since he started waterbending, and who better to teach him than one of the most advanced waterbenders in the Northern Water Tribe?
Sure, if I have time of course!, replied Chief Konaro with a sigh of exhaustion, from just thinking about all the work that he has to do. Nokoro had forgotten about how busy the chief of the Northern Water Tribe was.
I guess getting the chance to learn that move isn't going to be as easy as I thought. Wait, I almost forgot! What should I do with the genuine war tactic scrolls?, Nokoro thought to himself as an expression of realization lit up his face.
So, what should I do with the actual war plans?, Nokoro whispered, being careful not to let Riko know that the scrolls she has are fake.
Don't let anyone else know about those scrolls, no matter what! Just keep them in your parka until it's safe!, Chief Konaro also whispered. Just then, Nokoro felt the temperature in the room rise and heard something land on the ground.
No, it can't be!, Nokoro said to himself as he turned around in disbelief. He saw Riko, standing right in front of him, with a dancing ring of fire around her body.
That was some trick you and the Chief pulled. You just LOVE taking me out of my comfort zone, don't you Nokoro?, Riko said as she stared at him. Nokoro couldn't believe that Riko actually escaped from that trap!
After recovering from the utterly unexpected surprise, Nokoro said, I had to do what I had to do Riko! Our nations are at war! What do you expect?, as he and Chief Konaro went into waterbending fighting stances.
Then, before anyone could do anything, General Manoko entered the room and said, So, I guess it's a good thing I came! Do you guys need some help? He distinctly understood that Chief Konaro's suspicions were correct when he saw the girl in the Fire Nation outfit and the two waterbenders getting ready to fight. General Manoko is a waterbender, but ever since he was able to waterbend, he has ignored it and used hand-to-hand combat instead. He is skilled enough to do all the basic moves, though.
Sure!, Nokoro and Chief Konaro said at the same time, without taking their eyes off Riko. General Manoko knew that hand-to-hand combat would definitely be a bad choice for this specific battle, so he went into a waterbending fighting stance as well. Even though he scarcely used it for combat, he still enjoyed waterbending at night to calm his nerves, so the waterbending techniques were still fresh in his mind.
Suddenly, Chief Konaro began to turn an immense amount of ice around Riko into water and then shaped it into a thick block with her inside it. Then, all three waterbenders froze the tremendous block into solid ice. Next, Chief Konaro concentrated all his chi on the water in Riko's body once again, while Nokoro and General Manoko concentrated on the ice surrounding Riko. After deeply focusing, Chief Konaro started moving Riko's body up toward the ceiling by waterbending her internal water and Nokoro and General Manoko helped move her toward the ceiling by waterbending the ice block that she was trapped in. With the force of three waterbenders, Riko reached the ceiling in a couple of seconds. Finally, while Nokoro and General Manoko were still keeping Riko right under the ceiling, Chief Konaro melted an extremely massive amount of ice from the ceiling and a small, yet adequate, amount of ice from the ice block around Riko into water, combined them, and froze the water into ice, sturdily linking the ice block to the ceiling. Fortunately, the amount of water from the ceiling that Chief Konaro froze to link Riko to it was sufficient to prevent the powerful force of gravity from causing the ice block to fall.
There's no way she can slip out of this mess!, Nokoro murmured as he, Chief Konaro, and General Manoko continued waiting for the official to bring the prison cage. Impatient, worried expressions swept over their faces as they solemnly frowned with speechlessness. They didn't take their eyes off Riko for a second.

Riko was mad. Seriously, and utterly mad, this was the SECOND time she found herself encased in ice and DANGLING from the ceiling. It was really frustrating her to be dismissed so easily and this time placed on the roof of all places! There was no way she was going to get out of this one, all she had left to hope for was someone to rescue her and so Riko sighed in defeat and kept her temperature warm enough that she wouldn’t die from hypothermia but low enough not to melt the ice that was the only thing supporting the ice block. To make matters worse her hair had come undone.
The third Waterbender who seemingly appeared from nowhere ran outside again, no doubt to help with the cage she was going to be placed in. This time the Chief and Nokoro had learned their lesson not to underestimate her because they had been keeping a watchful eye the whole time.
“You know, my head is starting to ache being placed up on the ceiling like this!”
There was no answer. The Chief apparently thought Nokoro was enough to guard her because he waved good bye and most likely went to bed. Riko was really getting a headache from all this, especially since the blood was rushing to her brain so Riko took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and continued the “conversation.”
“Hey Nokoro, is that cage here yet cause I’d be much better on the ground.”
Still no answer, just a cold hard stare.
“Fine, if you won’t even have the decency to talk to me I’ll be quiet now.”

Both of the women gasped. Lanyi collapsed in the nearest chair, and Lan Shen quickly rushed to her side. Completely livid, she retorted, "What is the meaning of this?! Why would the 'divine Fire Lord' enlist us? My mother has no fighting abilites, and I'm still a student!"
"You...on the battlefield?" Xun said in disbelief. Making a mellow laugh, he added, "child, you are mistaken. Your mother and you are women, and therefore you shall not be soldiers. Like I said, your duty is to nurse any sick or injured soldiers of the Fire Nation."
Lanyi, finally regaining her wits, says, "But we have no experience! And what about my pipa class? What about Lan Shen's training?!"
"I'm sorry Lanyi, but Fire Lord's orders. You and Lan Shen will be shipped with the soldiers for their invasion of the Northern Water Tribe. Fire Lord Sozin needs all the help he can get. On your way, you will be taught the art of nursing. Ohh hoh...that's classic. Women fighting..."
Lan Shen growled, dashing toward Xun and abrubtly tackling him. She unleashed light, but fast punches across his face. She scratched him with her small and sharp nails, unleasing all of her frustration on the bewildered officer.
The already shocked mother attempted pry her daughter off of Xun. "LAN SHEN!" she cried repeatedly. Xun shoved the still-punching Lan Shen off of him. "That is enough!" he roared, quickly standing up. A drop of blood fell from his lightly scratched face, and it splashed to the floor. Xun squinted his eyes, and brought his hand up to his face, feeling the freshly warm liquid.
Lanyi's face turned ghostly pale at the sight, and was expecting the worse. She began incoherently bowing and saying sentiments like, "I'm so sorry" and "She's just a young girl, she doesn't know any better."
Xun gave a deadly glare at Lan Shen, who still stood her ground (although she was terrified inside). Making a malicious grin, he finally says, "No...Lanyi you are needed here. Your music is a solace for those of us at home. However, because Lan Shen hasn't accomplished anything at all in her life, she'll be shipped off. By dawn. And don't worry child, your living arrangements will be fine. The hogmonkeys and rhinos will enjoy your company." Xun turned, still grinning, and left the home.
Lan Shen and her mother looked at each other with horrified expressions on their faces. Her big, brown eyes began to swell with tears. They both knew that Lan Shen would have to face this journey alone. Bawling, the mother embraced her daughter tightly, never letting her go. The daughter embraced her as well, and sobbed as their world came crashing down.

After Nokoro, Chief Konaro, and General Manoko completed the intricate waterbending trap on Riko, General Manoko said, I'll go check on the prison cage and help the official bring it here. I won't take too long. Chief Konaro and Nokoro nodded their heads, while still staring at Riko. Nokoro saw Riko's lips move, but he couldn't hear her because of the interfering ice block, so he didn't answer.
I wonder what she said? Well, if she wants me to hear her, she should speak more loudly., Nokoro thought to himself while his impatience was starting to become unbearable.
Then, Chief Konaro said, I have some work to do in my office. I think you could handle Riko by yourself, can't you?, and waited for Nokoro to reply. Nokoro was absolutely honored that the Chief believed that he could watch over Riko by himself.
Of course!, Nokoro screamed with pride and a pinch of arrogance. He wasn't going to let Chief Konaro down!
Good! I'll see you later, then. Tell me if you need help with anything at all., he responded and waved goodbye. In a blink of an eye, Nokoro quickly returned to his task of watching Riko. Nokoro saw her talking again, but he still couldn't hear her, so he continued staring at her.
Finally, he heard her say, Fine, if you won't even have the decency to talk to me I'll be quiet now. Nokoro was angrily surprised by this comment.
What? I couldn't hear you, Riko! I would've talked to you if you had spoken more loudly., Nokoro screamed bitterly as he frowned with annoyance.
You realize that you have placed this burden upon yourself, don't you Riko?, Nokoro said with sympathetic disappointment. After that, he heard footsteps walking toward the room. He saw General Manoko and an official carrying the prison cage into the room.
They placed it on the floor as General Manoko said, Well, here's the cage. Where's Chief Konaro?, with a confused expression on his face. The official quickly ran back to his duties, being afraid of the fact that there is a Fire Nation girl in the room.
He went to his office to do some work and told me to tell him if I need help with anything., Nokoro replied as he started running toward the office. He needed help placing Riko in the cage, of course.
Wait! I'll tell him to come. Since you're more skilled at waterbending than me, you should stay here in case something happens., General Manoko explained as he left to get Chief Konaro. Nokoro returned to concentrating on Riko and remembered what he had said to her before General Manoko brought the cage. He waited for one of her witty responses as he continued to stare at her with magnified pity.

Nokoro hadn’t heard most of what she was saying except the last part and that made Riko even more mad knowing she had just wasted precious air.
“You realize you’ve placed this burden upon yourself, don’t you Riko?” replied Nokoro
Of course she knew that! She was just bored and so she talked, not to mention the fact that she was mad at herself right now. As her emotions began to finally stabilize after calming down Riko made a small hole in the ice with her hotter than normal breath. That was much better, now she didn’t have to scream down at him.
“Of course I know that! Anyway, if you think I’m regretting any of this I’m not! Do you hear me? Not!”
Riko knew that response was probably uncalled for but she didn’t care very much right now because she was going to be placed in a cage like some kind of animal.
“Furthermore, I think I deserve an apology. Serving your country and family is definitely not a burden. It’s an honor, but what do you know about honor? I’ll probably be thrown into some ice prison and then you’ll taunt me for thinking I could EVER go up against your tribe.” Exclaimed Riko, anger lining her retort.

Morning had arrived. Maiku woke up and stretched. "Today's the day," he thought to himself. Then he saw his and Aoi's disguise to get into the Northern Water Tribe.
"Well, there's no time like the present to get started." Maiku thought out loud.
He picked up the neatly folded clothes and headed towards Aoi's tent.
Once he approached the entrance of the tent Maiku said "good morning."

Aoi's eyes fluttered open, head throbbing and throat soar. "Oh..." she groaned, getting out of bed. I don't wanna be sick... Rubbing her temples with her fingers, she let out a moan and ran her hand through her hair.
Spraying her face with water from her little washing area, she let out a sigh. "Oh, man..." Suddenly, she heard Maiku.
Her mass of dark tangles still remained free from the confinements of a bun. "Good morning!" she greeted. "I'll take my disguise!"

After Riko made a small hole in the ice with her hot breath, she screamed, Of course I know that! Anyway, if you think I'm regretting any of this I'm not! Do you hear me? Not! Nokoro was confused about why she thought that he thought that she was regretting this. He never said anything about her having pity on herself.
But, before he could explain anything to her, she angrily continued, Furthermore, I think I deserve an apology. Serving your country and family is definitely not a burden. It's an honor, but what do you know about honor? I'll probably be thrown into some ice prison and then you'll taunt me for thinking I could EVER go up against your tribe. Nokoro became a little angry himself after Riko had made all these false assumptions about him.
So, with equal anger, he screamed, Listen, Riko! You can't just go around saying things about other people that aren't true! First of all, I never implied that you were regretting this! What I meant was that you have placed this unfortunate consequence over your head! I didn't say anything about you feeling bad about your mistake! That's your choice and your choice only! As for me calling your service for your country a burden, I didn't mean that your honor is a burden! I meant the frustration and pain of this mess you got into is a burden! And I do know about honor! I am honored to capture you for trying to cause the downfall of my nation, just for a meaningless war created by a power-hungry megalomaniac named Sozen! And lastly, I never even did anything that indicates that I'm going to enjoy your torture and misery! If you get into an ice prison, it's something you should blame yourself for, instead of blaming me for taunting you because of it, which I wasn't even going to do! Earlier today, I didn't even think you were a deceitful spy, but just a misunderstood friend! So if I'm going to be doing anything while you're in prison, it's going to be feeling bad about how someone who could've been one of my best friends is being punished for one of the worst crimes in the world: treason! And no, treason isn't only committed by citizens of a nation, but also by people who live in the nation and are trusted by the people of the nation! I do apologize, Riko! I apologize for ever being friends with a cold, heartless spy like you! Nokoro couldn't think of anything else to say, so he just took a deep breath and waited for her to respond.

“Hmph, saying things that aren’t true, like YOU did when I first got here. I didn’t ask for my country to be run by someone like Sozen and I didn’t ask for this family profession but…”
Riko’s eyes began to water but she held them in with all her pride. Nokoro’s reply had struck a chord in her.
“I can’t believe you actually meant all of that. Me, as a friend, because as you said we are at war. However, I apologize for my assumptions but I want to ask you something. Is there a possibility that the scrolls I now posses are in fact not the real war tactic scrolls?”
Riko knew that the question she asked was probably far from the truth but she was playing her last card here and if he took the bait she might find a way out of this. Riko’s conscience was prying into her thoughts at the moment.
She wished dearly that she wouldn’t have to do this and that maybe, just maybe, Riko might have a friend that was not her family members or Fire Nation. Someone who was of another nation, like the story of the Avatar and how the elements were not divided but part of one big whole, but it was probably not to be. Nobody would ever trust a Fire Nation citizen in these times, and so she waited for his reply.

After a few hours of packing and listening to helpful advice from her distressed mother, Lan Shen finally went to bed. She lied motionless, waiting for sleep to take her away; take her away from all of this. Slowly rising from her mattress, Lan Shen quietly left room. Nearby, Lanyi was sleeping soundly, making Lan Shen smile.
Mom, I'm going to miss you so much. You have no idea...
Wide awake with anticipation, she silently left the house, only making a creak when opening the door. The moon was half full, giving everything a beautiful white glow. Lan Shen breathed in the cool air, I just love fresh air, she thought. Her long, auburn hair flew in the breeze. If she wasn't going to war in the next few hours, she would say it was a perfect moment. "So tranquil..." The young girl walked around her village, and with every building, ever tree that came by, memories popped into her mind. She saw her dojo, her dear dojo that learned her the art of firebending since she was 5. If only I could say goodbye to all of my friends... Lan Shen walked up to the dojo, gingerly touching the front door, memories flooding back like water.
Lan Shen's brown eyes began closing and opening, sleep finally take ahold of her. I should head back home... And with that, she slowly walked back home, leaving a small trail of tears.
-----------------------
A crimson blanket fell to the sky, and Lanyi was already awake. She was very tempted to leave her daughter asleep, but consequences would be dire if Lanyi did so. Lanyi gently nudged Lan Shen, sweetly saying, "My dear, time to wake up. It's a new day..." her voice began to waiver.
Lan Shen quickly woke up, hearing her mother's sweet words. Lanyi's eyes were red, as well as Lan Shen's. The daughter sadly smiled, and reached for her things. Only carrying her pipa case, her sleeping bag and some clothes, Lan Shen walked outside with Lanyi. Her mother walked beside her, wrapping her arm around her as they headed for the port.

I have to get dressed!" she was grinning though. As soon as he left, she slipped out of her jinbei and into her disguise: a Water Tribe woman's clothes; and went outside to meet Maiku.

Hmph, saying things that aren't true, like YOU did when I first got here. I didn't ask for my country to be run by someone like Sozen and I didn't ask for this family profession but..., Riko said as she almost started to cry, but didn't, I can't believe you actually meant all of that. Me, as a friend, because as you said we are at war. However, I apologize for my assumptions but I want to ask you something. Is there a possibility that the scrolls I now posses are in fact not the real war tactic scrolls? Nokoro didn't know what to say! His temporary anger was immediately replaced by pure confusion as he became lost in her words.
How does she know about the real war scrolls? Is she trying to trick me?, Nokoro thought while he tried to maintain a calm, nonchalant expression on his face. He decided not to take the chance of telling her the truth, whether she was trying to trick him or not.
Riko, if you didn't have the real war scrolls, why do you think we would've stuck you to a ceiling? Where did you get that random idea from anyway? If you had the fake scrolls, don't you think we would've let you go back to the Fire Nation so that they would have the wrong plans?, Nokoro asked after pulling himself back together and emotionally calming himself down, And what do you mean I said things that weren't true when you first got here? I did no such thing! Also, I apologize for screaming at you right now. I let my anger for the war and everything get out of control. But that doesn't mean that I'm not angry and disappointed in you for betraying the Northern Water Tribe. Maybe one day, I will forgive you in my mind, but I hope you will be able to forgive yourself. Once again, I'm sorry that it had to be this way. I just wish that the four nations wouldn't act like they were separate and different, but just one people. I mean, is there really a difference between you and me? Why can't everyone just get along?! Nokoro felt like crying himself, but like Riko, he held his tears back. Nokoro felt as if a wave of different emotions was vigorously flowing throughout his body. He felt his outrage about the war, depression and worries about Riko, sadness about the separate, disputing nations, and many more feelings ripping him apart. He waited for Riko to reply as all the emotions overcrowded his stressed mind.

"I'm feeling alright," Aoi said.
"OK." Maiku said. He felt something was up, but decided to leave it alone.
She took the disguise and told Maiku to shoo. Then she smiled. Maiku didn't know what to do, so he smiled back. "Why didn't I say anything," Maiku thought to himself as he left, "I could have said something." Maiku decided to push the thoughts aside for now and concentrate on the mission.
Maiku went to the boat docked in the bay to see if everything was in order.
"Everything is ready Maiku," the general said.
"Thank you sir," Maiku said.
"Your welcome, now go and meet up with Aoi, and be back in twenty minutes." The general said.
"Yes sir," Maiku replied.
Then he saw Aoi, he departed from the general to meet up with her.
"We have twenty minutes until we begin our mission," Maiku said to Aoi as he approached her.

After about twenty minutes, it was ready to go. Heading over to the boat, she played nervously with her hair. Hope I do well...
