Name: Mei Lin Zheng
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Nation: Fire
Bender: No
Appearance: Mei Lin is neither tall nor short and stands at about 5’4” when she's not slouching. She weighs about 112 pounds and prefers to do more athletic activities, but despises any sport of any kind.
Her hair is styled in a traditional, but complicated bun in the back, held up by ornate pins, with short bangs covering her slightly large forehead. She has full lips and a set of brilliant teeth that fulfill a smile rarely given. Mei Lin has very dark brown eyes that almost appear black with not-so-thin, but not-so-thick and angled eyebrows, completed with black hair. If she lets it down, it is long and slightly curly. Her face is heart shaped and she has almond eyes.
Her clothing is traditional for any daughter of a noble, but slightly thinner because of her low tolerance to heat. She wears a thin burgundy robe that is trimmed with gold around the hem, sleeves and collar. The end of the robe stops at her knees and the sleeves end at her elbows. She has a gold and black sash that ties around the middle. Underneath her robe is a shirt of lighter red, almost pink, sleeves that travel down to the end of her hands and form a V at the back of her hand. Mei Lin also wears black gold pants under the robe with dark shoes.
Personality: Mei Lin has a dispassionate disposition in life and rarely takes any pleasure in anything pertaining to politics. She enjoys her plush and luxurious life, although she claims she doesn't need it. Mei Lin is quiet, reserved and has a lack of respect for anyone below her. She rarely verbalizes her thoughts and if she does, it’s most likely to be a statement of bitterness or sarcasm. She has control over her temper, where her father and older brother do not, but often snaps when the particular topic of marriage is brought up. Mei Lin has a tendency to lie and over the years, has a bit more control over her heart rate, but her tell is that she begins to examine and pick at her fingernails.
Mei Lin's mother often claims that her eyes give away whatever she's thinking, thus making Mei Lin an easy person to read. She also prefers to leave her home at night as opposed to the day, considering she hates excruciatingly hot temperatures.
Mei Lin is a stubborn and very observant person. Two of her more cunning skills is her ability to retain lots of information and hyper-observance skills. However, to her dismay, Mei Lin suffers paranoia in extremely emotional situations and has a mild case of OCD. She tends to count when walking and likes to have her food not touch when it is served to her. Mei Lin also dislikes being unnecessarily touched, especially when greeting others.
History: Mei Lin's family descends from the original noblemen of the Fire Nation. It was rumored that her family is even related to one of the first Fire Nation Avatars, but considering how long ago it was, it’s impossible to tell.
Mei Lin was born at the end of summer, a common time for most members of the Fire Nation. She was born at a small birth weight, but just a few ounces from being unhealthily low. At a young age, Mei Lin always remained underweight and suffered from brittle bones due to a lack of calcium in her diet (as she holds a hate of milk). After Mei Lin turned five, her father forced her to drink milk to create stronger bones so she would be able to participate in the rigorous training of the Royal Fire Nation Academy for Girls.
Mei Lin made high marks in language and writing skills, mathematical and history classes, but did not do as well in her physical activities and public speaking classes. She also had a difficult time associating with other girls and often found herself secluded. Mei Lin studied her fellow classmates and tried to draw conclusions about them. While she made an acceptable grade in her martial arts training classes, Mei Lin was lazy and preferred not to train at all. She often performed dangerously average in any exhibition for her father and mother (who were often angry at her poor performances), but did better in close-range fighting than using long-range weapons like knives.
Mei Lin is the middle child in her family. Her father, Chen, is a nobleman and a lieutenant in the Fire Navy. Her mother, Tien, is from a family that considers themselves relatives to the original ruling family of the Fire Nation. Mei Lin has two brothers, Daichi being the oldest and Li being the youngest. Daichi is twenty-four years old, married and has a son. Daichi also serves in the Fire Navy as a mid-ranked officer. Li is eleven and studying rigorously at the Royal Fire Nation Academy for boys. Daichi, Li and Chen are all firebenders. While Li has a poor level of firebending, although it is improving, Daichi shows a high level of skill, but is far from being a master. Chen is closer to being considered a master, but is reckless and lets his temper control his firebending.
When Mei Lin turned thirteen, she was informed of a possible arranged marriage. However, when the young man died because of an illness, Mei Lin’s betrothal was canceled. At nineteen, Mei Lin still refuses to wed, but her parents finally overruled her and said that after the Fire Nation ends the war, Mei Lin will be getting married to an officer of the Navy.
