Is there room for another fan of Iroh and Zuko? ;D You're right, greedyslayer. It's subtle, but it seems true that Iroh wasn't always as understanding toward the other nations as he is now. It always strikes me when he's writing the letter in Zuko Alone, and says "if we do not burn it (Ba Sing Se) to the ground first", and then he laughs at the joke, and so do Zuko and Azula. But yes, i think he would want to protect Zuko from making the same mistakes he did, and i don't think all that time they've spent together in exhile has been wasted as of CoD. Zuko will come around--i feel sure of it.

Maybe it's just fanon, but Iroh strikes me as rather like Himura Kenshin of RK fame--largely powerful with a devestating history as Hitokiri Battosai/Dragon of the West, the superior assassin/general, yet in later years trying to atone in his own way, and going from dead-serious to more laid-back and peaceful.
...Uh, was that clear, or utterly confusing? XP

I think i see what you mean, altho i'm afraid i don't know very much about Himura Kenshin. Tho I think Iroh was always a more compassionate person than, say, Ozai for example. Take that flashback in Bitter Work, when he was playing "war" with his son. (So sweet, and...sad! *cries*) But he may not have been as understanding of the other nations and all as he is now. It seems like there's a lot of propaganda and stuff making the FN people believe that the war is good, and after all Iroh is closely related to people like Azulon and Ozai, so i can see where he would have been in favor of the war back then.

Oh no, we can't let this thread die! *drags thread back up from the murky depths of the Character Board...well actually the 2nd page of it...oh well lol* I come bringing gifts! Well, one, at least. You see, i made a banner of our favorite surrogate father and son, and i thought my fellow fans my like to see it...so here it is. (The words are from the song Give Unto Me by Evanescence, a song i think fits Iroh and Zuko's relationship. In case you have a hard time reading them, they say "Fear not the flame of my love's candle/Let it be the sun in your world of darkness.") Double post of doom. D: Don't hurt meh! Anyways, I've been working on that list with my mother. I'm still fixing it up. But I have a few facts...they aren't all Ursroh related, but sorta both...the son thoery and Ursroh. Just so you guys don't get confused. Here are some that I have written up:
1. One of the most important facts for this theory would be Iroh’s line to Zuko from Avatar State. “Things in our family aren’t always what they seem…” A lot of different forum members around here take that as an Ursroh hint. Even more since it was on the subject of Ozai.
2. Ursa’s line to Zuko in Zuko Alone. “Everything I’ve done, I’ve done to protect you.” Leaving so that Zuko would not be killed. And if you listen closely to the scene, you can hear footsteps in the background, even Ursa turns her head to face the sound. One theory would be that the footsteps belong to Iroh. The flash backs never indicated of how much time was between them, so Iroh could have very well came back secretly to get Ursa away.
Another, slightly over analyzing theory would be that her line to Zuko came from her saying all those times that she protected him from the truth of Zuko being Iroh’s child, by saying he was Ozai’s.
3. Another important fact found in Zuko Alone, would be that every time a letter from Iroh in Ba Sing Se came to the Fire Family, Ursa was the one to get him. It was never forwarded to Ozai, regardless of it he was busy or not. Even for the important letter about Lu-Ten’s death, Ursa received it first.
Another thing to take note of was Ursa’s line to Zuko: “I was just coming to get you, Uncle Iroh sent us a letter from the war front.” She said that she was coming to get you, you being Zuko. Although both Zuko and Azula were playing in the same field together.
4. Azula’s line to both Zuko and Iroh in Avatar State: “It must be a family trait, both of you so quick to get to the point.” Take note that she didn’t say anything along the lines of “It must be one of our family traits.” Or anything similar, she was directing it to Zuko and Iroh, or their side of the family. My mother makes a good point about her line, thinking that perhaps Azula may have known about the truth, being that if it is real or not. And that is why she continues to make smart remarks to them both, most clearly being Iroh.
....I know they are sorta overly analyzing, but that's what my mother thinks...and she's right....most of the time. x-x;

^^Those are some very interesting clues. I think the corresspondence that seemed to be between Iroh and Ursa is the strongest clue. I'm not sure I can go with the footsteps being Iroh's though. Other people have said they are very light, and theorize that they are Azula's footsteps. I have to see the eppy again to be sure. I still have trouble seeing themes like extramarital affairs being allowed in a Nick show, but this is definitely food for thought. Perhaps they are deliberately hinting without outright saying it. I've seen some other stuff hinted at in this show that's probably too risque to say outright. Good stuff Endless, Gonna karma this later.

^^Dude, why are you doing this? Your posts often seem to have nothing to do with the topic, and what's with the "good luck"? Couldn't you put that in your signature? Not trying to start anything, but it's kinda annoying to see a new post in a thread I'm following and thinking "ah a new idea!" and it's just about 4 words that don't really add anything. Anyway, been thinking about Endless's list, and #4 is really interesting. Why would Azula say such a thing to her own brother if he has the same parentage as her? If she knows he isn't Ozai's son, how would she know? And why hasn't she spilled it? And why would Iroh keep it secret, and keep up the Uncle act for so long? Has he been afraid that Zuko wouldn't be able to handle it, and perhaps reject him? Poor Iroh
