Sorry that this is a short chapter. Please keep reading!
CHAPTER TWELVE
Azula bid me goodbye, then went off in search of Mai and Ty Lee. When I entered my room, I could feel tension filling the air. Toph sat cross-legged on the floor, scowling. Sokka was sprawled out on his stomach on my bed, his chin propped up with his hands. Katara was pacing angrily.
"Um, hey, guys. What's wrong?" I greeted them carefully.
"Oh, I'll tell you what's wrong!" Katara seethed.
"Katara's freaking out," Toph offered. Sokka snorted.
"Ya think?"
"I am not freaking out!" Katara snapped loudly, glaring at Toph and her brother.
"What happened?" I dared to ask.
"Nothing happened. Katara's just bent out of shape for no reason," Sokka said simply.
"I see..." I was very confused. It wasn't like Katara to get angry like this. Usually she only snapped at Sokka, but that's to be expected, with sibling rivalry and all that.
"No, you know what my problem is? Zuko is just a stuck-up prince who doesn't care about anyone! He's all 'my life is terrible, feel sorry for me' but really, he's spoiled rotten! You know, he barely said two words to us in the city! I guess he's too good to be hanging around us "peasants". He's so rude! He's worse than Sokka!"
"Hey!" Sokka complained.
"Zuko wasn't really that bad. Just quiet," Toph added. But Katara ranted on.
"And in the cave, he was all nice to me, acting like he knew what it's like to be me!" She sounded like she about to cry. The last time I had heard her sound like that was with Jet. And what exactly had happened in the catacombs? "Ugh, and the worst part is, this is all Azula's fault!"
For some reason, that made me mad. "What did she do to you? How is Zuko's bad attitude her fault?" I demanded.
"Well, if she hadn't split us up, then we wouldn't have been stuck with him in the first place! And why did she split us up anyway? Why couldn't we have stayed with you? I thought it was supposed to be a group outing," she said bitterly. Her stance was defensive. Sokka and Toph looked on carelessly.
"Well..."
"Look, Aang, we can't trust her. I'm sure she seperated us for a reason, and I doubt that they were good intentions," she continued.
"How would you even know that?" I shouted. "Maybe she's changed! Maybe she just wants peace!"
"Yeah, and maybe Toph can see and Sokka has half a brain," she retorted.
"Hey!" Sokka said again.
"Don't bring me into this, princess. I'll dethrone your Equus asinus before you can even say 'waterbender'," Toph shot back.
"You're calling me a princess? The only princess around here is from the Fire Nation, and I'm telling you guys, we can't trust her!" Katara's face was red with anger now, but I barely even noticed it.
"Hey! I'm the Avatar, and I say it's worth giving her a chance. You of all people should know better than to judge her without knowing her!" I yelled, sending a blast of air towards everyone. "Now get out of my room."
