Okay, this is written in two different first-person POVs. Azula's will be written in red, Aang's will be written in orange. Thanks for reading; I'm grateful for all comments, good or bad. I hope you enjoy it! Here it goes:
CHAPTER ONE
I could feel my body lifting into the air on a giant wave. I was cold, but it felt like my entire body was burning with a heat that couldn't touch my conciousness. My naturally sharp eyesight had been magnified even more so than usual, and as I rose up on the huge wave, I could clearly see everything and everyone in a small Earth Kingdom villiage below me. Without thinking, my arm shot out and an enormous bolt of lightening flowed easily from my fingertips and sent the town up in flames. I had never made a lightening strike like that before. I grinned with pleasure and pride as cries of pain rang out through the air and the fire crackled as it grew.
"Az-u-la!" Ty Lee sang off-key, dragging me from my dreamworld and back into reality. My amber eyes snapped open in annoyance and I sat up. She stood over my bed, beaming that stupid smile at me. Mai lounged in a window seat behind her, looking bored. I glared at them.
"I thought I told you to let me sleep! What is so important that you felt the need to wake me?" I barked, watching her smile disappear.
"I told you it was a bad idea," Mai cut in.
"Well..." Ty Lee whimpered.
I held up a ball of colbalt blue fire, feeling the pleasant tingle of electricity in my palm. "Get out."
"Well, Mai and I were wondering if we could go say hello to Zuko..." she finished quickly.
"'Mai and I'? No, I told you, Ty Lee, I don't care! You shouldn't have woken her up!" Mai snapped, but I caught sight of a blush beginning to color her pale face.
I sighed, exasperated. "I couldn't care less what you do, girls. Just leave me alone," I grouched, lying back down and turning my back to them. I heard Mai sigh as she stood up and walked out of the room. Ty Lee followed her by walking on her hands. Her braid swished gently as it trailed behind her on the floor.
The door closed behind them. When their retreating steps could no longer be heard, I threw back the covers and began to pace.
It had been two days since I conquered Ba Sing Se. It had been quite the battle; we had all been tired afterwards. We had mostly stayed in bed while we recovered, allowing the Dai Li to wait on us. Yet everytime I tried to sleep, I had dreams about the Avatar.
I had heard of the Avatar State, but I had never seen it action until two days ago. It was the most spectacular thing I had ever witnessed. Before I had shot him down, I had seen a power like no other in the Avatar's glowing eyes. It had transformed him from an everyday child into a nearly indomitable force.
I wanted that power. Whoever held that power controlled the world. If I had that power, I could rule anything I wished.
"It's just too bad you weren't born an Avatar, Azula," I murmured to myself. It had come to mind that if I could control the Avatar, I could acheive power through him. But then a bitter realization occured to me: I had killed him. No one could have survived the strike I had hit him with. Without the Avatar, there was no hope for me.
I let out a frusterated groan. It wasn't like me to become frusterated, unless it was with other people's sickening incompentantcies. But this time, I was on the losing end. The one thing that I longed for was the one thing I couldn't have.
Weary, I flung myself back onto the bed, where I fell into yet another fitful period of sleep.
