Chapter 7. “Who would take Sokka?” Toph’s angry and thunderous voice made Aang jump when she spoke.
“I don’t know, Toph, I just don’t know,” Aang said as he sighed and squatted down with staff in hand inspecting the ground.
Maybe Roku was wrong, and Sokka was the one to be taken by Zuko. But I can’t tell Katara, because… Because Roku is usually right. And that’s the last thing she needs to worry about right now.
Aang’s mind began to run with all of the possibilities, but every thought continued to come to the same conclusion. That Roku must have been wrong about the dream.
But if he was wrong then why did I see it happen, why was I there?
Katara on the other hand was not taking this as calmly as the others. In her rage she quickly gathered a large water ball and froze parts of it into ten ice spears. She shot them simultaneously at the trunk of a nearby tree. The sudden thud of the spears made all of the birds from even nearby trees fly away in fear. She continued to use up the left over water bending it into anything worth throwing. With every hurl she let out an agonizing scream. Her entire body was shaking, she couldn’t control herself any longer, and her mind was blurry as large tears welled up in her sapphire eyes.
Katara just did not understand, the one person in her family that was safe, was now gone. Out of sight, and out of her protection. Every single person she has ever cared about seemed to leave her, and she couldn’t take it any longer. In a way Katara took this upon her shoulders, much like when Aang was burned, she believed that she was the one they should blame.
If something did happen to Sokka, if he is… dead… I can’t go on. I wouldn’t, there is no way I could.
With one final large spear and cry of pain she came crashing to her knees, the weight of the world falling with her. Her shoulder’s hunched over; she had once and for all lost hope. Her knees ground into the mud as she began to cry hysterically, every sob was a plea for some way some how Sokka to come back to them.
“Katara! Be quieter, the people who took Sokka could still be around,” Aang’s voice was harsh and demanding, but it stopped immediately by the look in Katara’s eyes.
She looked at him in almost disbelief shaking her head. Aang put his hand to his mouth trying to stop himself from speaking.
“And besides,” he now corrected himself now, as his voice softened and his expression as well.
“For all we know he could have gotten lost and he could be fine Katara. We can’t continue to worry about something we don’t know. We can’t just assume that he is…” Aang stopped abruptly; he was shocked by the words that were just about to come out of his mouth.
He was on a roll today, saying all of the worst possible things he could.
“Go ahead say it. We can’t just assume that he is dead right?” Katara was beyond upset, and if looks could kill, well, she would be a murderer.
This is my brother for Christ’s sake! He could at least act like he cares!
She was angry with herself, if she had not sent Sokka out to get water everything would be fine. She was angry with Aang; he didn’t seem to be too bothered about any of this. Something had changed about him; he wasn’t the same Aang she knew.
But most of all Katara was angry with the world. There was always something, there has always been something standing in her way. It seemed like she could never do anything right. Something always went wrong.
“I think we had better get moving,” Aang pleaded with Katara setting his hand lightly on her shoulder.
She did not move, she did not even seem to notice his hand there squeezing her. She was in a daze staring into the flowing river, it almost had her hypnotized. Aang thought that finally she was really loosing it. After all of this time the mind can only take so much heartache, Katara had been through much, and maybe it was just her breaking point.
“I know you miss your brother; we will find him I promise. I am not going to let anything happen to him… or you,” his eyes lowered at the thought, he had given away too much, she is going to find out about the dream.
“But right now it is not going to bring Sokka back any sooner if we just sit here in despair,” he quickly changed the subject so she wouldn’t think twice about what he had just said.
“We have to go,” his voice was now comforting; Aang really was trying to understand.
Katara looked up teary eyed and nodded in obedience. She bit her lip as her eyes told Aang that she was sorry and he knew it, silently he accepted the apology. She wiped her nose casually on the sleeve of her parka sniffling a little and gathered her normal composure. She took a deep breath and stood up still shaking a bit as Aang jumped up on Appa, and Toph followed. But Katara stopped right where she was and would not go near Appa. Her eyes were pleading with Aang, begging him to let her go.
“You two go, Momo and I will stay here and look on foot, I need some time to think,” Katara said stepping away from Appa towards the river.
Toph’s face showed remorse for her as she looked towards her direction.
“Maybe we should stay with her Aang,” she said quietly just so he could hear.
“I’ll be fine, don’t worry about me,” Katara reassured them with a small smile and those pleading eyes.
“Katara is right; if we split up we have a much better chance at finding Sokka.” Aang knew what Katara needed, and as any good friend would do, he let her stay.
She watched Appa rise into the clear blue sky above the trees. Aang, and Toph flew away slowly, Toph had her chin lying on her folded arms in front of her on the edge of the saddle. Her face was somber, and she knew Katara wasn’t alright. She knew that they had to find Sokka, for her sake.
As soon as the flying Bison was out of sight and over the large pines that surrounded the clearing Katara then turned to the river and fell back to her knees. She slid a bit in the mud and looked towards the flowing water with her hands resting on her thighs. She sighed deeply, trying to hold back the tears that were building in her eyes.
“Sokka, where are you? I’m sorry for always being so rough on you… please come back,” She cried trying to give herself some kind of hope.

Zuko was continuing to stalk down the path; anything that got in his way would be annihilated. His mind was set on capturing the Avatar, nothing… nothing would get in his way. At this point even if Uncle Iroh himself had tried to stop him… It would not be possible.
A low and muffled growl reached Zuko’s heightened senses; he looked to the sky recognizing the grumble. There was the flying Bison, right above him. Zuko dove into a bush to be kept from being seen. There was his prey.
“The Avatar!” Zuko hissed looking up from the covering of his bushes.
As it swiftly flew by he heard the faint calling of a name against the strong wind.
He has lost someone, and I will find them first.
He began to follow the bison down a less traveled path, leading away from the main road, he ran hastily while every now and then looking to the sky to keep up the pace with the Bison. Suddenly Zuko stopped in the middle of the trail; it soon weaved into a larger road which was already occupied. There was a small troop of Fire Nation soldiers marching down the path; apparently they had not noticed the Avatar.
Zuko ducked down behind a nearby bush and waited for them to pass. His eyes widened as their leader appeared at the front of the troop, Azula, Mai and Ty Lee followed behind on their Rhinos. But what surprised him more was what they had with them, the water tribe boy, the Avatar’s companion. Zuko knew this was his chance to regain his honor. He crept towards the small regiment crawling on the ground, military style. He soon scampered to another bush, causing it to move slightly, he shuddered as he saw Azula lift two fingers to signal the troops to stop.
She must have seen me!
She got off her rhino and walked towards the bush Zuko was in, inspecting the area, her eyes surveyed every detail.
“No stupid!” He whispered. He was so low to the ground he could only see her feet pace back and fourth.
She had found his footprints, and obviously had seen the bush move. Her ability to see detail, and track was beyond Zuko. She was trained well, and was a natural at it. Azula continued to inspect the area touching certain leaves and spots on the ground, but then stopped. Her eyes narrowed as she began to move one large leaf that would reveal Zuko as he held his breath sure that he would be caught…
“Princess Azula! The Avatar!” A guard called out from the group pointing to the sky, she stopped immediately and saw the Bison.
“Move quickly!” Azula ordered her men in a fierce tone as she ran to her Rhino.
Zuko now able to breath again let out a long exasperated exhale. He knew that Azula would somehow at least come close to capturing the Avatar, so he followed. Pulling out his Blue Spirit mask and his swords, he crept behind the troops to where the water tribe boy was. Silent as a ghost he walked right behind him unnoticed.
The boy’s guard turned away for the time being and he saw his chance. Zuko leapt out and grabbed the boy pulling him into a bush. Completely unseen by the other soldiers Sokka had been kidnapped by the Blue Spirit.
The slight rustle of bushes caused Ty Lee to look back, also because she did not mind getting another look at Sokka.
“Oh where is the cute boy?” Ty Lee chimed in.
“What?!” Azula screamed she looked back to see no Water tribe boy. “Soldiers find him now!”
BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
“Shhh,” Zuko whispered in Sokka’s ear holding him down on the ground and covering his mouth.
The blue mask hovered over the quivering boy, his face was menacing. But in some weird way Sokka knew this was his escape. He knew this is what Yue meant by waiting for the right moment. Even though he had heard rumors of the infamous Blue Spirit, he never believed he really existed, until now.
The Blue Spirit couldn’t wait any longer; he could hear the men coming for them. Finally they both got up and ran dodging behind trees trying to lose the guards from their trail. Sokka’s heart was beating like a drum, almost bursting out of his chest from the adrenaline rush.
The Blue Spirit grabbed Sokka around the upper arm and ran deep into the forest, the soldiers were coming, fast. As they were running fireballs came flying past their heads, almost singeing Sokka’s ponytail. Sokka screamed and ran even faster at the sight of fire. The men were relentless with the attacks and Zuko knew they would not last much longer against them. Sokka had continued running not even noticing, or really caring, that the Blue Spirit did not follow him. Zuko then stopped and pulled out his twin broadswords hiding behind a tree. He was breathless, but gulped to keep himself from being heard.
Steady, steady Zuko.
On soldier who was ahead of the other ran by Zuko and he jumped out knocking one over the head with the butt of his sword. As the man fell he threw a fire blast at his face and Zuko leaned back exposing his neck barely avoiding it. With one move the man fell to the ground unconscious. The fireball had flown up into a tree branch above igniting it, causing a small smoke signal.
Quickly Zuko took his original place behind the tree and awaited the other soldier. His heart rate quickened, Zuko closed his eyes breathing calmly thinking of meditation as his sword was raised to the height of his head.
It was in moments like these in which he needed to control his emotions and bring forth his power. Zuko inhaled deeply, as his body surged with a new energy, something Zuko had never experienced before. Perhaps it was the adrenaline, or perhaps it was this power Iroh spoke of.
The second Fire bender ran right by Zuko’s tree, much like the other had, with his eyes still closed Zuko inhaled through his nostrils deeply and suddenly exploded with such power. The two inner sides of his wrists and arms were pushed together, his arms fully extended, and his hands opened into a flat surface. A large blue fire ball burst into the man’s back as he was running. He dropped immediately to the ground, dead.
It was a blue flame, but not lightning, Zuko would have much to learn before he could accomplish that. But the blue flame was a start. Zuko had not even noticed what he had done; he was focused on re-capturing the Water tribe boy. He was like an animal, focused on one thing, and one thing only, hunting down his prey.
BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
“I don’t see him anywhere or anyone… Anywhere,” Aang said hopelessly, as he continued to search the ground for his friend.
“Keep looking Aang, he has got to be here somewhere,” Toph ordered him.
“Why don’t you look, it would help a little!” Aang was irritated with the constant commands she gave to him.
But Aang stopped immediately realizing his deadly mistake; he would not get away with this so easily. Toph looked to him with a scrunched face; her eyes were narrowed and seemed to have a toxic beam coming from them. He was warned silently to never say anything like that again, or the consequences would be horrific.
“I would if I could, BLIND GIRL REMEMBER?!” She finally spoke and she could feel Aang wince as she said the last three words.
“Oh yeah,” Aang blushed terribly from the embarrassment, he was happy she could not see that
Aang knew that this time she would go easy on him.
“Sheesh, Air benders,” Toph sighed as she returned her chin in her hands and leaned over Appa’s saddle on her stomach.
BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
Katara now was returning to her normal self, she knew that she could not just give up because Sokka would not want her to. It was useless for her to waist time worrying about what could be rather than what is. The fact was that Sokka was gone; she knew that, he wasn’t dead.
She ran up and down the edge of the river calling his name loudly. Katara knew to stay by her element, the possibility that enemies could be lurking in the nearby woods was too great to risk.
Her nerves were finally calming down and her heart rate as well. For the first time that day she was able to think clearly. She sat down by the river bank for a minute to rest, but the moment she did a small shadowy figure could be seen moving quickly through the trees. It was running straight for where she was, crashing through bushes and stumbling along the way. The shadow was frightened and was running from something.
Katara was getting worried now and she stood getting into a battle stance, she did not know if this figure meant to cause harm to her or not. She had to be ready for anything.
“WATER!!” Sokka burst through the brink of the forest screaming as he saw the river.
He completely ignored the fact that his sister was right there ready to attack him as he dove into the strong current. Katara’s face was elated as she saw her brother she had a long sigh of relief and put her hand on her chest to steady herself. But then her expression changed instantly, she looked for some reason angry.
“Sokka I have been worried sick about you and you don’t even care to say ‘Why hello Katara, how have you been? How is Aang? Lovely day isn’t it?’” Katara imitated what Sokka could have said with a stupid expression waving her hands wildly in the air.
“Where have you been? You have better have a good explanation for yourself,” she continued trying to look tough, even though she was overall happy.
“Where is Aang? I have to find him,” Sokka said abruptly still sitting in the middle of the river.
“Oh I see how it is now you ‘Have’ to find Aang, you don’t even care that I have been worried sick about you?” Katara was irritated, more relived than irritated, but she wouldn’t let her brother know that.
Interrupting the two sibling’s small feud another figure appeared from the tree line, Zuko, still disguised as the Blue Spirit. Katara’s eyes flashed a dangerous glance as she remembered that Sokka was running from something, and now she knew what. She bended a large ball of ice and threw it at Zuko, he took the blow flying into a near by bush. The thorns stuck into hundreds of different places on his body as he cried out from the pain. His body was stunned, and Katara stood there smiling at her work.
“Zuko,” she said quietly with rage, and then her voice suddenly rose to a scream as the anger overflowed. “You! I can’t believe you took Sokka! Hiding behind your mask, you disgusting little…”
“Wait Katara!” Sokka interrupted her, she stopped immediately surprised by his outburst.
“It wasn’t him, he rescued me!” Sokka screamed out pleading with his enrage sister.
“Wait ZUKO RESCUED ME?” Sokka finally realized what had happened.
The prince of the Fire Nation, heir to be the most powerful man in the world, their mortal enemy, had rescued Sokka. This was the first time it came to Sokka’s understanding that the Blue Spirit, enemy of the Fire Nation, was its own Prince.
“What? What do you mean? He rescued you…”
“Yeah, Admiral Zhao was the one who took me,” Sokka didn’t have time to finish before he was rudely interrupted.
“What?! Admiral Zhao is back?” Zuko and Katara chimed in at the same time.
They then exchanged glances of surprise and disgust with each other, but soon returned to hear and answer from Sokka.
“… Then Azula, Mai, oh and uh… Ty Lee took me from Zhao, and then the Blue Spirit, who was really Prince Zuko, took me from Azula and them.” Katara looked confused and was trying to put together all that Sokka had just said.
“It doesn’t matter, I am back now and here with you,” Sokka shook of her thoughts and intruding gaze.
“Admiral Zhao is back?” Katara questioned again, partially to herself.
“That’s why I need to talk to Aang!” Sokka finally got his point through to Katara; she nodded slightly thinking over the situation.
BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
“It’s useless, I don’t see him anywhere. We shouldn’t leave Katara alone that long, with enemies around,” Aang’s voice squeaked a little.
He had made another deadly mistake, he had left Katara alone. Roku had urged him to protect her, and he had completely ignored the order. Aang rushed Appa now to turn around and head back to the river where they had originally left her.
As they neared the river Toph heard Aang’s voice barely against the wind.
“Down there I see Katara! And Sokka! She found him Toph! She found Sokka!” Aang said with glee, he was glad to see she was alright.
“Oh goodie,” Toph said laying her hand underneath her chin; she was trying to not look too overjoyed.
Appa was lowering the passengers slowly to the ground as Katara shaded the sun with her eyes. A genuine smile covered her face, something Aang had needed to see for a long time. She waved to them, and Sokka took his place next to her.
Zuko was still hidden in the brush; he had gingerly gotten out of the thorn bush as soon as the flying Bison was in sight. He had to act quickly.
Now is you chance Zuko, take the Avatar.
Desperately he came to the first conclusion that entered his mind, he knew now how to capture the Avatar.
Aang had leapt off Appa to go tackle Sokka, while Katara stood there smiling at the two young boys. Toph had stayed on the Bison and would wait her turn to say hello. They were rolling on the ground, much like when she and Toph had “Attacked,” Aang after he woke from the Avatar state.
Suddenly Katara’s smile left her as she felt a strong warm hand stretch her mouth to keep her from screaming and another around her waist pulling her close to the body behind her. It was breathing heavily and she could feel the stomach muscles contract. She gasped and tried to scream but the hand was tight and almost suffocating her.
She struggled at first as she was dragged a little further away from the two boys, who were completely distracted from the situation. She suddenly came to realization, Zuko. He then took the hand around her mouth slowly and heated it; he clenched his fist aiming right at her neck. While the other hand moved from her waist pulling her hair back to expose her neck to more damage.
“Don’t make a move and you’ll live,” he whispered so close to her his lips brushed the back of her ear as his warm cheek was pressed up against hers.
She quivered slightly; his breath was warm and almost creepily soothing.
Her mind was racing along with her heart; she had no idea how she had gotten into this situation. It all happened so quickly, Katara had no time to react, she had no choice.
“Surrender yourself, and I promise I will let her go. Fight back and she will be burned,” Zuko suddenly screamed to the Avatar.
Haha yeah, so to my reviews, just to let you know. This is not a Zutara. Even though I, myself, am a huge fan. The way this story will go, it would just be too OOC. I know, I would like to but... It just couldn't work. Though, there will be tension between them and some "Semi," Zutara teasers. Just as there is in the show, and such things. Anywho, sorry if I ruined your hopes. But please keep reading!!

Chapter 8.
Aang stood slowly, his back facing to Katara and Zuko, his eyes widened with a poignant expression. This was his third deadly mistake of the day. Recognizing what was happening, he turned to face his absolute worst nightmare. Seeing Zuko with Katara, his best friend, the one girl he even possibly loved, in the hands of a ruthless Prince.
How could I be so stupid?!
Aang was beyond disappointed with himself. There were no words that could describe the regret that sank into his heart, he had failed. One deadly mistake once a week was good enough, but today…today there were three. Aang’s heart had stopped beating for what seemed like years, the entire world froze. No one moved, only their short breaths could be seen. Aang slowly closed his eyes, he had to keep back the tears, and he had to keep his pride. The only words that continued to come to his mind were Roku’s.
“If you cannot protect her, I fear you may not have the strength to fulfill your destiny,” it haunted his thoughts.
Maybe Roku is right, maybe I can’t fulfill my destiny. Maybe I am not strong enough.
Aang snapped back to reality with the screeching voice of Katara, she was pleading with him, exactly like the dream.
“Aang don’t listen to him! I promise I will be ok; you can’t let the world down by surrendering yourself for just one person! Don’t do it. I will be ok… I will be ok,” she gasped as Zuko pulled her hair back more and was almost touching her neck with his fist.
Aang thought quickly, he had to think of something, and he couldn’t let Zuko take her. Unless.
“Dreams are often the gateway to the future Aang, you must listen to them,” Roku’s voice interrupted his thoughts, it seemed so real; Aang could have sworn he was standing right there behind him.
How could it come to this? How in the world could it have come to this? I have to choose between Katara, and the world. Either way I choose I loose. How could it come to this?
It was too late to change anything like Roku had said, it was far too late. Aang had to choose, whatever his choice was, he would have to live with for the rest of his life. This was all just a nightmare, he was living a nightmare. A nightmare he couldn’t wake from.
Looking up to Zuko staring him straight in the eyes, Zuko’s golden eyes burned, Aang’s were full of sorrow. But as they held this glance, Zuko demeanor changed if only for just a second. He knew exactly what the Avatar was about to do, and to be honest, he was surprised. Aang sighed deeply, still trying his hardest to hold back the tears as he stepped aside and let Zuko take Katara. Though Aang knew this would not be the last time he encountered Zuko, he would see him again.
“Your loss Avatar, now you will never see this water peasant again,” Zuko returned to his tough composure as he ran off with Katara in his grasp.
I can’t believe it… he… he let him take me.
Katara’s heart practically stopped, even though she had reasoned with Aang to not turn himself in, she had never expected him to go through with it. She never dreamed that Aang would let such a thing happen, she was shocked, but most of all hurt. She thought that Aang cared more about her, but apparently she was wrong. This was not the Aang she once knew. There was nothing she could do but let herself be taken, Zuko was stronger and had the advantage on her. She would have to watch and wait.
Sokka stood there next to Aang with his mouth dropped wide open, he couldn’t speak, he couldn’t think. Rage had blinded his thoughts.
“Aang what did you just do?? That is my sister!” Sokka said in disbelief.
Toph had now gotten off Appa and put her hand on Aang’s shoulder, she could tell he was hurt and confused. His heart was skipping beats every now and then, and Toph could feel it. Something was battling inside of him, something he had no control over.
“I… I… I don’t know,” Aang was in shock that he had actually made the decision.
It was like watching himself out of body, he couldn’t stop the actions he was making, his mind was screaming to turn himself in for the sake of the one he love. But his heart wouldn’t let, it was quite confusing, having your mind battle your heart. He couldn’t stop himself from making the worst decision of his life; all he could do was watch and wait. BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
Zuko wrestled Katara part of the way to the cave. If she couldn’t stop herself from being taken, she promised that she would make his life a living hell.
She thrashed around too much that she freed herself from his intense grip around her waist. Taking this chance to run she twirled herself in a swirling confusion out of the Fire benders arms. She ran straight for where she came, perhaps if she made it back there Aang would fight for her, perhaps he would show that he cared for her.
She was moving her feet as fast as she possibly could, dodging branches above her head. Katara turned back for one minute to see the face of an angry Prince, who was much faster than her, and in much better shape, pursuing her. Curses flew out of his mouth as he came so close to her. Just two more steps and Zuko grabbed the back of her parka tackling her; he landed on top and refused to move. His eyes glaring, stabbing like knives, she just turned away and squirmed her way out of the uncomfortable situation. He was much heavier than she, so this made the situation even more difficult.
Zuko still in a complete fury got off of her, he watched her as she chocked on air holding her stomach where he had been sitting. Once she finally maneuvered herself up Zuko moved in for the kill. He grabbed Katara forcefully pushing her against a tree, almost raising her off the ground to his height. Zuko got very close to her face, about an inch away. She could feel his breath on her cheek and see the sweat on his brow; apparently she really was giving him a hard enough time. She was glad to see him out of breath, but it made it even better to know that a mere Water bending peasant was the cause of this.
Katara glared at him without saying anything, her eyes spoke a thousand words. They held a strong gaze towards each other, neither would blink. Then he finally spoke.
“Go along with this, or trust me you will regret that you ever tried to fight me. You want to run, I will hunt you down. If you do not cooperate, you will never see the Avatar again… I promise you that… My way, my rules,” Zuko smiled a bit with the fact he was in the position to say that.
Katara’s fury built up inside of her, she wanted to reach out and punch him right in the face. She even envisioned herself doing it. But he was holding onto her wrists tightly, bruising them. She knew there was nothing she could do right now, with no water, and a strong fire bender, she had no chance. So she loosened her muscles showing that she would comply. Her head lowered in disgrace, she felt completely helpless in his grip.
“That’s a good girl,” Zuko smiled sardonically.
BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
Zuko has a way of pay back for that who he believes deserves it, Katara just happened to be one of those people. He threw Katara roughly into the ground; she bent over on all fours trying to get back up. She was grabbed abruptly and firmly by her wrists, Zuko was pulling her down a tiny unused trail leading to a small cave. For now, she followed him willingly, but she knew that deep down in her mind, he would pay.
“Prince Zuko what have you done? Who is this?” Iroh questioned him worriedly, he had a gut feeling that his nephew had made too irrational of a decision.
“Don’t worry about it Uncle,” he said as he hurled the girl down harshly on a pile of bedding.
Katara skidded across the floor, her body landed in a twisted way, with her torso facing the ground and the other half of her body facing the caves ceiling. Her braid was a complete mess from being thrown around so much. There were dirt smudges on her face and finger bruises on her wrists. She lay in her twisted position, cupping her face in her hands. She began to cry silent tears, Katara refused to give Zuko the satisfaction of knowing that he had made her cry. She then curled up her legs into her chest, trying to get comfortable; she would not look at the concerned old man who now sat across from her. His eyes were saddened, and had a quality to them that Zuko could never have. They were kind, understanding, and loving, perhaps something the Prince had never experienced.
Zuko sighed as he walked to the mouth of the cave; he plopped down on the ground with his legs dangling over the edge. He thought for some reason that accomplishing the kidnapping would make him happy, that it would make him proud. He thought that he would have finally done something right in his life. But this brought him nothing but pain, and resentment.
That last word made Zuko cringe, there were so many things in his life that he resented, and I seemed that every day he added more to the list.
“You know Zuko, you cannot keep her here forever,” Iroh almost scared Zuko, he had appeared out of no where standing behind him.
“Nothing you can say right now will change my mind,” Zuko kept his cool voice, and his stubborn attitude.
“It is sundown, he is going to come for her,” Iroh warned, even though he already knew his nephew had thought of this.
“That is exactly what I plan for,” Zuko pushed his Uncle away with his body language.
Iroh left him there to be consumed by his thoughts; Iroh knew this was not right. This was not an honorable way to catch the Avatar. He turned back to where the young girl had been curled up; she was now sitting upright and looking at him. Her large eyes no longer shed tears, but there were dirt smudges of where they had recently been. She starred with a blank expression and plainly blinked; perhaps she had heard the conversation and was surprised by his attitude. What ever it was, her expression soon changed when he walked towards her. Katara sat with her arms crossed with a livid look on her face, her lips were puckering and she would not make anymore eye contact.
As Iroh took another step, she scooted away into a corner, like a caged animal would when threatened.
“Child, I mean you no harm; I know my nephew is a bit rough… But be relieved to know that I am nothing like him,” the old man’s voice was comforting, and soft, she could tell that deep down inside he was a good man.
His cheery smile could not help but cause her to return the same smile.
“That is much better. Now would you like some tea? It’s Ginseng, it’s my favorite,” Iroh still with the same sweet smile.
Katara just looked at him for a moment, almost confused, but then she just shook her head no.
“What is it with young kids these days; can’t anyone enjoy a good cup of tea?” Iroh shook his head in disgust, but he soon glanced to her a flicker of a smile.

“That’s my sister you just let the prince of the Fire Nation run off with! What were you thinking?” Sokka tackled Aang to the ground; he held his boomerang to his throat.
Aang was squirming beneath Sokka’s weight as he pushed the boomerang harder into his neck; he gasped for air and was trying to explain himself.
“Sokka….st… stop! I can’t breath!” Aang finally wheezed out, Sokka looked at him and slowly took the boomerang from his neck.
Aang was finally able to breath, he sat on the ground wheezing and gasping for air. While Sokka squatted next to him, eyeing the Avatar looking him up and down.
“Listen Aang,” he poked Aang’s chest with his boomerang before continuing. “I don’t what happened, or why you did what you did. All I know is that we need to get Katara back. If you don’t bring her back, I swear to you I will finish what I started.” Sokka’s hand was shaking uncontrollably.
Aang understood why Sokka was upset; it was his sister after all. But he couldn’t just tell him about the dream, about Roku; he wouldn’t realize what had to be done. In fact, Aang wasn’t exactly sure why he had let Zuko take Katara, all he knew is that now his mission was to bring her back. What was done is done.
Sokka just plopped down frustrated, and but most of all worried. He breathed quickly and deeply, Sokka was scared to death. He wouldn’t show his fear though; he hid it well behind his anger and a tough exterior. He was a big brother and he promised his dad as his last wishes before leaving for the war that he would take care of Katara. He would watch over her, protect her, it was Sokka’s responsibility. She was all he had left of his family, and there was no chance he would sit by and watch her be taken away without a fight. He wasn’t going to break his promise.
“I can’t feel where they are anymore,” Toph said is a quiet voice.
She was practically lying on the ground trying to feel any kind of vibration, but it was no use, Zuko and Katara were too deep into the woods by now.
Sokka turned to look at Toph unemotionally; he just kicked the dirt by his foot in distress. Aang was sitting cross legged on the ground meditating; he had to find a way out of this mess. Aang felt like Katara was his responsibility; he had to get her back. He took a deep inhale as he relaxed his body, and lightly whispered.
“I’m going to fix it, I won’t fail this time.”

Azula who was now infuriated screamed for her guards. She was not able to control her rage, most Fire benders could not, they were as unpredictable as the flame in which they bend. She shot lighting at near by trees, instantly igniting them into a blaze causing a domino effect throughout a small part of the forest surrounding the trail. Fire outlined the path as two men from the back reluctantly came to the call of the girl. While Mai and Ty Lee flinched at the screeches of Azula, they knew exactly what was coming next.
“Guards, now!” Azula gave one last warning, she was growing impatient.
The two came and bowed before her not daring to look up at the monster that lay within. Knowing her power, one was shaking in fear. There heads were lowered to the ground disgracefully, they had both failed.
“Are you intent on making a fool of me? Do you think it is funny to let him run away? Two of my best guards chased after the prisoner which was your responsibility, one is now dead and the other is seriously injured. You do not even have the sense to take the blame for your own mistakes… disgraceful,” She spoke never giving them any chance to answer.
“In my country it is formal to pay for such things. Perhaps you would like to be the two who go to the family of the man that died and inform them that it was you who killed him,” one guard bravely lifted his head to speak interrupting Azula.
“Excuse me your highness, but we did not kil…”
“Yes you did, your stupidity and laziness killed him! If you would like to interrupt me again please feel free, but know that if you do… you will be dead before you are finished speaking. I know that you do not want that to happen in this case,” Azula sighed slightly, gaining her normal upright composure as she maneuvered herself on the Rhino.
“It has become obvious that you are no longer of use to me,” she paused slightly to look at the men; the one was still shaking in terror.
“Mai! Ty Lee!” Her voice was commanding, making the two react immediately.
“Prepare yourselves, we are going after them. Men if you still care about staying alive I suggest that you prepare my ship for sail, we shouldn’t take long.”
With that the men left immediately in fear of the wrath of Azula, they scampered down the trail like a group of mice. She watched until they were out of sight. Now it was only the trio there in the path.
“Imbeciles, I am surrounded by complete imbeciles,” Azula’s fury had calmed now and she was grimacing and what had just taken place.
“Please tell me this time I get to actually do something,” Mai sighed as she slouched on her Rhino.
“Oh this is going to be fun!” Ty Lee chimed in while clapping her hands vigorously.
Mai mimicked her behind her back waving her arms in the air and sticking out her tongue. Ty Lee did not notice, as usual, and Azula, as usual, did not care.
Without saying a word the three went straight into the forest not bothering to follow any type of trail. Azula did not turn her head to look at anything, unlike Ty Lee who was following a butterfly with her finger; Azula was set straight ahead on her goal. She was like an animal, focused on one thing, and one thing only, hunting down her prey.

Morning had come quickly to Katara; surprisingly she had slept well throughout the night. For the first time in months, she felt rested. The slits of her bright blue eyes could barely be seen, there was a figure sitting across from where she lay. Dressed in black, with a pale face, it continued to stare. Katara for the time being had no idea where she really was or who the figure was, but the feeling coming from its relentless stare gave away the mystery. Zuko. Katara jolted from her spot curling her legs into her chest in a defensive position, she remembered everything now.
How long had he been watching me?
Katara sent the curious Prince a treacherous look, she did not trust him. He finally broke the gaze and tossed a plate of food, only a small amount, to her. It skidded on the rocky floor, spilling just a little, and it came to a stop right in front of her. Katara in defiance of her being captured refused to eat anything. She just sat there and stared at the ground kicking at the plate. Zuko just shook his head, got up and walked away.
“Soon enough you are going to want that,” Zuko said under his breath as he trudged away.
Katara also had a notion to not say a single word, giving both of her captors the complete silent treatment.
“Are you going to eat that?” Iroh smile and licked his lips.
He had already eaten his food and was still hungry. Katara just looked at him and shook her head no. Iroh gladly smiled and took the plate, not minding the small spray of dirt in it from Katara. He ate greedily, and was more than quite a bit messy. He hastily took a long swig from his small tin cup of tea; he stopped immediately watching Katara who almost give him a half smile. It was the closest thing he had seen to happiness from her. He set his cup down and noticed the crumbs from the food that covered his shirt, and he returned the same sweet smile as he brushed them off and left the cave.
Zuko just ignored the two and sat back at the mouth of the cave in his usual spot. His mind flickered to a time and place he wished could have happened, if he has never been banished, if he still had his honor, and if he earned his father’s love.
He imagined standing next to his father by his throne advising him in the war. He could see his mother there too, in the background, she would smile at him. She told him he was going to be the greatest Fire Lord there ever was, and he believed her. He remembered what it was like to be loved by his mother. He longed to feel her embrace, her kissing his forehead, speaking sweet words to him in his sleep, and feeling as if he actually belonged to something. It was such a long time ago, though the feeling and memories never left him, even though sometimes he wished they did. He wished to one day end the prolonged torture that has been brought upon his life.
“I need water,” an abrupt voice came from behind.
Her first words since she had arrived and they were a demand, not a question.
“Not a chance,” Zuko said remembering the same voice that seemed to challenge him in every aspect.
“I am thirsty, you can’t deny me water,” Katara said trying a new approach hoping to convince him.
Zuko just ignored the nuisance; he continued the trance of his thoughts. The girl stood there holding onto her elbow with her other arm aimlessly kicking at the ground. She gulped loudly trying to annoy Zuko, but the Prince didn’t seem to hear her. Finally Uncle Iroh stepped in, just another interruption to Zuko.
“Prince Zuko where are your manners? Take the young lady to get a drink of water,” Iroh said in a commanding yet suggestive tone.
Zuko sighed he knew better than to not listen to his Uncle. He was a wise man, maybe he knew what he was talking about. Zuko obeyed his Uncle motioning for her to follow him. Iroh stood there with a proud look on his face, he had accomplished something great and worthy of admiration. He had ordered Zuko to do something, and the stubborn teenage listened.

“So master Avatar, we are waiting… Fix it,” Sokka sarcastically annoyed Aang as he grew impatient.
Toph sat there quietly just listening to the bickering; she just shook her head at the two. Surprisingly Toph was worried about Katara, even though they fought often, the group just didn’t seem the same without her. Toph couldn’t, more like wouldn’t let the other two know that she was concerned. She considered herself to be the one to stay tough, to not show any kind of emotion, she had to be strong for the others.
“You know, people underestimate girls. I know we all should be worried for Katara, but she is a big girl, and a master water bender. We aren’t as helpless as you think, she isn’t I mean,” Toph said that meaning to be comforting to the both of them.
But speaking of Katara seemed to separate the two further, Sokka just let out a big “Hmph,” and turned his back on Toph.
I tried, that’s all I can say.
Aang was now in deep meditation, his memory flashed back to many things, but one seemed to stick out more than any others, when he was in the swamp, speaking with the Water bender.
“Everything is connected,” and at that Aang knew how he could find Katara.
She was a part of him, just as he was a part of her. They were all just a puzzle piece in the universe, waiting to be connected. His mind went to complete and utter focus on Katara, he thought of every memory, every word she had said. He could see her, hear her, and even smell her. Aang then knew what had to be done, he squatted partially leaning one knee on the ground as he scooted closer to the river. He had to think like Katara, to be in her element. He lightly dipped two fingers into the water and almost like a lightning bolt had hit him, he was stunned and thrown on his back.
“I know where Katara is!”
BORDER()BORDER()BORDER
Katara followed Zuko silently, slowly her pace with each step hoping to separate herself far enough so she could slip away unnoticed. But Zuko was smarter than she thought; he stopped right where he was in the path and looked back to her. He had been suspecting her to attempt an escape by now, if not earlier, he was more than prepared. In a way he nudged his head forward giving an unspoken command for her to walk in front of him. She plodded on not making eye contact as she passed him. She could hear his quiet steps behind her; he walked on the balls of his feet, as though he was stalking something.
But as Katara promised before, if she couldn’t stop herself from being taken, she wouldn’t make this easy for him. She had to wait for the precise moment, if she attempted to escape too soon, there would be no chance, she would be caught and probably beaten badly.
Zuko now had the river in sight; he stopped abruptly and grabbed Katara forcing her to stop at the edge of the trail. He would not allow her to go any closer to the water; he wouldn’t give her the chance to overpower him so close to her element. She squirmed in his grasp at first but suddenly she stopped. It was the look Zuko gave her, his eyes told her I-wouldn’t-do-that-if-I-were-you. Even though it was just a warning, it felt more like a promise.
“Give me your canteen, I’ll go get you some water,” he said reaching for the canteen tied to her waist.
“I would like to get it myself if that pleases you, Prince,” Katara said in disgust as she threw his hand away from her.
He just smirked at her, and began to untie the rope himself. As he untied it from her waist he smiled proudly. Almost to spite her, she knew though, she couldn’t do a single thing to stop him.
“Do not think I don’t know what you are trying to do, remember? I was there at the North Pole when you almost defeated me. I am not that stupid,” Zuko roughly pulled the string from a loop in her Parka and held the canteen in hands.
He was trying to pull off the intimidation factor, yet again. Katara was in an absolute rage, she couldn’t think, she couldn’t speak. She was never this way around anyone else; something about him brought it out in her… His arrogance, the way he looked at her, the fact that he always had to be in absolute control; she couldn’t stand it.
Almost defeated him?
Katara bit her tongue from retorting with a dumb remark that would get her beaten to a pulp, instead she gave him a warning of her own.
“Fine have it your way, I know you not stupid. Just like you must know that I am not afraid of you at all.”

Chapter 9.
“Aang, are you alright? It looked like… I don’t know what it looked like but something happened!” Sokka jumped up from where he was and ran to Aang’s side.
“That definitely didn’t feel normal; it was like lightning, right here,” Toph agreed with Sokka.
“Don’t worry about me, didn’t you listen? I know where Katara is!” Aang pushed both of them away and he used a small Air blast to lift him to him feet gracefully.
“What the heck are you talking about? All you did was put your fingers in the water and ‘Poof!’ now you know where Katara is. Are you using your weird magic again?” Sokka was now very animated and very confused.
“Well it is kind of complicated, but we don’t have the time right now, we have to leave before it is too late! Katara is all that matters now!” Aang said while he ran over to Appa waking him up.
“Come on boy!” Appa had a difficult time getting up, he yawned slowly as Aang pushed against the gigantic animal with all of his might, his feet digging into the ground.
Appa did not even seem to notice, it felt only like a small nudge to the Bison. But he heard the pleas of Aang, and as an animal, he could recognize the urgency in his voice, and feel the energy coming off of him. Finally gathering his strength Appa got to his feet, Aang flew onto his head with reigns in hand. Sokka and Toph were still on the ground, they did not expect this quick of results from the Avatar, and were in a small state of shock.
“Come on! I told you, we don’t have much time, I will explain later!” Aang was screaming at them now, trying to snap the two out of the trance.
Sokka was the first to respond, he grabbed on Toph’s hand pulling her. Now it seemed like Sokka had come to his senses, he hurried the young blind girl along. Aang was so eager to leave that he rushed Appa off the ground before the other two were fully on the Bison. BORDER
Zuko decided to not return the smart comment back to the Water bending peasant; he was of a higher class than that. After all he didn’t believe her; Zuko knew she was just trying to be tough. Katara just kept the same determined look on her face, he had to hand it to her though, she hid well the fear that lay behind its mask.
But quicker than Katara could react Zuko was on her, he grabbed both of her upper arms pinning the Water bender to a near by tree. He then took some of the rope conveniently from his belt while detaining her easily with one hand. He then began to wrap the rope around her and the tree; he clasped her hands together to make the final knot. She had no time to resist, she had no idea what his intentions were and she was completely stunned. Perhaps he wasn’t so stupid. Her face was for the first time that he could see, full of fear.
Sure, she isn’t scared of me. Just look at her.
Zuko arrogantly thought to himself, he loved the power of fear.
He then stepped back and smiled slyly to the girl. She was already testing the rope and his tying abilities. Zuko slowly turned towards the river, his eyes never averting from the Katara’s sapphire eyes. Zuko now towards the end of the path finally turned his back all the way on the young water tribe girl. He unscrewed the cap and took his time kneeling down to the flow of the water. His keen eyes were set on the sky line for the Avatar, knowing that he would come soon. Zuko expected an attack with every turn he took, to the point of paranoia.
Katara watched him walk to the river, as soon as his eyes left her she breathed a little easier. She was waiting for the right moment to make her move. When he knelt looking at the sky line, almost forgetting about the girl tied to the tree, she began to move her hand back and fourth in-between the tight ropes. Her eye brows pinched together and the concentration could be seen just in her expression. The ropes began rub against her wrist slightly irritating the skin, but that made her even more determined to escape. The water began to follow her command, it moved back and forth. This was a difficult task, since she could not even have her arms and hands in full control; she had to use her mind. The water pushed and pulled with a little more power now.
It didn’t seem like enough, Katara had to reach the state of utter focus, the thought that empowered her most, Katara’s mother. With that single thought the ever increasing wave was at her command.
Zuko had noticed the slight movement and he convinced himself it was just a wind current. But when the movement and ripples became a wave he knew exactly what was going on. Zuko’s eyes glazed over, something was taking over him, something out of his control. A fire seemed to burn within him, it was ruthless, and overpowering.
“You little peasant!” The way Zuko said it every time was degrading, but this time it was down right humiliating to her.
Everything about him irked her; she couldn’t take the constant ragging, the constant beating, and most of all the constant heartlessness. With one last flow of her hand and the complete image of her mother shot into her thoughts all of her power broke loose. A massive wave rose above Zuko; he stopped noticing the growing shadow, he turned to see the wall of water rise above him.
BORDER
Azula was now using her heightened tracking abilities to pursue this ominous Blue Spirit everyone feared. She easily followed his trail, because in the rush of escaping with his new prisoner, the Blue Spirit had completely forgotten to cover his footprints. The Rhinos also now had his scent, for they too were more than ready to capture their prey. Azula used her whip to urge her Rhino along the path, they were getting closer, much closer, and she could feel it.
The three neared the river, right where Katara had been taken. Just as the three hunters emerged out of the woods, the Bison had taken flight. Azula immediately recognized the flying Bison as the Avatar’s creature, she mustered the power and shot two consecutive lighting bolts with precise aim.
Not noticing the small figures down below Aang saw the lighting flash right by them, he knew unmistakably who it was. Aang gave Appa and extra push, because with Azula, they needed to leave quickly. They flew up into the clouds vanishing into them so Azula would not be able to pursue. Sokka in fright gripped on the saddle to keep his balance with the incline and turned to see the three on their rhinos looking very upset, except for Ty Lee, she was waving to him. Sokka for the slightest moment smiled and waved back to the girl, as a natural human reaction, then he seemed to realize what he was doing put his hand down quickly and blushed slightly. He then abruptly slapped himself in the head, leaving a small red circle.
“Well that was unbearably close, Aang you had better know where you are going. And fast.”
“I think I know where we are going, I mean down by the river something happened. I can’t exactly explain it, because I really don’t know what happened. All I do know is that I think Roku was giving me a vision of Katara down the river a couple of miles. She was Water bending. It’s like we are connected, you know?” Aang tried to explain, but did a very poor job of it.
“Sure, lighting, water, ‘Poof’, it all makes perfect sense Aang.”
Apparently this was enough to satisfy Sokka’s urge… for now. He wouldn’t question Aang any further, because with him being the Avatar, as Sokka put it ‘There is always a lot of creepy stuff happening.’ Sokka this time didn’t want to know the entire story.
After around ten minutes of flight, Appa slowly started to glide down out of the misty cloud cover and lowered his passengers towards the river where they all saw Zuko…but no Katara.
The Fire bender was crouching on the ground, with something in his hands, but it could not be seen.
Aang’s muscles had tightened ready for the attack on Zuko, the memory of Katara being yanked around like a doll was enough to fuel his anger. For as Aang could see right now, he had no idea what the Prince had done with Katara, or where she was at the moment. But he did know that no matter what, Zuko would pay. The boy took everything Aang held dear, right out of his own hands, no one… no one would get away with it. Aang felt every single bit of rage, every annoyance that he buried under his composure, every worry that settled itself deep within his mind, come rising to the surface. As Appa was let down closer to the ground, it was dead silent. The intensity in the air was almost unbearable.
BORDER
“Is everything prepared?” A deep monotonous voice called out from the shadows in the corners of the room.
The piercing brown eyes simmered and lit up when the shapeless shadow spoke. The glowing orbs were the only thing to be seen in the dark. The room was completely pitch black, save for the small light from the open door, but one could tell where the shadow was, only feel it. The hatred fuming from the figures breath was suffocating; it contaminated everything in its presence. The shadow sat, with its legs sprawled onto another chair as it crossed its arms over its chest awaiting an answer.
“Yes sir, everything is ready and waiting for your command... Commander Akio is waiting for your next order,” replied the half frightened officer, he refused the meet the burning gaze of the man sitting in the corner. “Sir,” he added in quickly, feeling the tension coming from the figure that demanded respect.
“Perfect,” Admiral Zhao smiled devilishly leaning forward moving into the light so only the definition of his features could be seen.
“Now get out, I need some time to go over the plan!” He screamed to the young man, pounding his fist on the table before him.
The man practically ran out of the room, by the look on his face, he would definitely need a bathroom break by now.
BORDER
Iroh was shopping in a local market for some more tea, and any other useless trinket he was notorious for buying. Store shoppers would just have to see the old man coming; they were like sharks and knew the perfect targets to hit.
“Why Sir, you look like a fine gentlemen! Why any gentlemen of your stature would surely know that he cannot pass up the opportunity to buy one of these fine tunics!” A store owner called out holding up a green material to Iroh as he was walking by.
“Oh yes, normally I would not… not buy it, but I am afraid I must be leaving. You see I left my nephew back at home, and he needs constant supervision,” Iroh politely replied to the desperate man.
“Wait! I have Pai Sho pieces, even the unusual and rare Lotus Tile! Perhaps that would interest you?” The man ran after Iroh, ready to pull him into the store.
“Lotus Tile? I already have one, but as I have said before, I must be leaving, I do not have the time,” Iroh brushed him off and continued to walk to the edge of the market.
“Do not have the time? Maybe a fine sun dial would do?” But Iroh just ignored the pleas, he had to return to the cave and make sure that neither one of the young teenagers had not killed the other.
He was carrying a big basket of do-dads nodding politely to the other strangers passing by. He reached the edge of the market heading towards the woods when something caught his eye. Blue Lightning, correction, Azula’s lightning. He knew there was trouble. Iroh’s first thought went to Zuko, he knew he did not have enough experience to face her alone, Iroh had to help. Uncle Iroh immediately dropped everything and headed for the area where the bolt was.
But then his mind went to the young Water bender, perhaps Azula had tried to steal her from Zuko. Now he was convinced that there truly was a real danger, he was their only hope.
The Dragon of the West still believed he was young and could run as fast, and not tire, as he did when he was 20 and in the best shape of his life. But he was completely wrong.
His breath was the first to go; it would come in wheezing spurts, but then leave once again. His throat trapped the fresh air from reaching his lungs, but he continued to drag his feet along. He grabbed at his throat trying to loosen it for more air to come through, but it was useless.
Then he could feel every muscle wanting to give out and quit, shaking almost after about a five minute run. But he couldn’t stop, for Zuko’s sake, and for the sweet young Water benders sake. She had grown on him, he had to admit it, and even with the short time they had spent together. She had grown on him. With this it gave Iroh a new determination; he refused to let any more incidents like that of his son’s to take place. He would change things.
BORDER A massive wave rose above Zuko; he stopped noticing the growing shadow, he turned to see the wall of water rise above him. Trying to stop it from continuing its growth, he turned to Katara with fire erupting from his fists. He did not care about keeping her alive for bait anymore, he was tired of her constant nagging, her constant and futile attempts to escape. He determined that she would no longer stand in the way of his destiny.
Zuko’s aim was a fraction off, only causing the Water benders arm to be hit with the blast. She cried out in pain, but silently thanked the gods that it wasn’t a more serious injury, though the fire did conveniently cause the rope to burn off setting one hand free. With determination and a strong mental control of the water with an effortless flow of her wrist the wave engulfed him. Zuko was splattered into the ground, and it was his turn this time to be thrown around, it was his turn to be the captive. The great prince Zuko from the superior Fire Nation had been beaten by a mere water bending peasant from the South Pole. All at once with the wave, Zuko’s pride came crashing down and was trampled into oblivion. Once Zuko was lying on the ground Katara immediately froze the water surrounding him. It created a large and thick ice block outlining his body. Katara surprisingly was merciless on the young Fire bender.
She arrogantly walked over to the Prince, who was conscious for the moment, his eyes burned. But Katara’s were like the ice that imprisoned him, for the time being she forgot everything, her family, the Avatar, even her burn. She just focused on tearing apart Zuko who lay before her, at her mercy. She leaned down laying one hand on the ice, her head moved closer to his. Katara’s lips were right by his ear, she slowly whispered to him.
“Karma, what goes around… comes around,” Zuko believed that he could never hate someone as much as he did now.
Katara on the other hand enjoyed this moment, it perhaps was the highlight of the month. She had defeated a great enemy, and proven to a pompous little brat of a Prince that she was much more than just a ‘Stupid little peasant.’
Katara left Zuko to wallow in his defeat; literally, he was frozen solid and would not be able to escape for quite some time. She took the canteen that was thrown aside by the Prince, pulled out the water to heal her own wounds. Zuko was watching her every move, until she began to become blurry, then the rest of the world was blurry, until there was complete darkness. For the time being his torture was relieved.
Quickly healing herself, since the wound was not that deep, Katara looked to see to her surprise a very familiar sight. Appa, Aang, Sokka, and Toph had finally come to her rescue. Though, by this time she had pretty much taken care of things herself.
“Aang you were right! Look! It’s Katara!” Sokka smiled widely with glee as he jumped off the bison before he fully landed.
He crashed to the ground and rolled back to his feet, but did not care; he went straight for Katara hobbling all the way. She ran to meet him half of the way, the two embraced in one big happy family reunion, even some tears were shed. But Sokka refused to admit that half of them were his own.
“Baby sister your safe!” Sokka whispered in a sing song voice, but then reacted back to his normal tough guy manor.
“I mean you know… I’m glad you didn’t get hurt or dead or… anything.”
“Sokka why can’t you just admit it, you are just as happy to see me as I am to see you,” Katara playfully punched her brother in the arm.
“Well it is better then when I came back, you yelled at me!” Sokka protested her remark.
“That was because you didn’t care about seeing me; all you cared about was getting water and taking care of yourself!” Katara was actually now getting angry.
Why did he have to ruin the moment? He always ruins the moment. Stupid boys.
“Well maybe if you had actually had to work to set yourself free, like I did then…” “Shut it ponytail guy! You had someone rescue you, Katara here rescued herself, I told you she was capable,” Toph interrupted Sokka, everyone just stopped in shock to look at her.
She had actually defended Katara, while Katara took this moment to go over to where Toph was and show her appreciation, but was cut off abruptly.
“Just because I defended you doesn’t mean were friends,” which could be interpreted as ‘I am so glad your back, I can’t stand these boys, we need more girls around.’
Ugh, she was going to hug me, Toph shivered at the thought of someone touching her like that.
During all of this Aang had not dismounted from Appa, he sat there with Momo in his, the two exchanged a bitter sweet smile, and both with sympathetic eyes turned away. Aang had let her be taken away, and his eyes seemed to apologize over and over again. Katara’s eyes seemed to nod to him; they were understanding and forgiving, as she always was. The two truly did have a connection no one could understand. They had no need for words; the exchanged glances were enough to be said.
Katara was Aang’s step back into reality. She was the light in the darkness, when all other lights were gone. She was the strength that lay within him, his foundation. It was always said that behind a great man, lies a great woman, and this was proof. In the Avatar state his fury blinded him so, but when she stepped into the picture nothing could draw him away. She was the calming water in his life, his better half. When all seemed lost Katara was the one who reminded Aang of who he is of what his destiny is; she made him want to be the Avatar.
To Katara, Aang was her last hope. He was the last purely good thing left in the world, he was living proof that in dire times like these, there still and will always be hope. She knew this cause was worth fighting for, in fact she knew that somewhere deep down inside her heart, she would even die for him. In Aang, Katara saw this 12 year old kid, with every wish and prayer from every person lying on his shoulders. Katara knew since the first day she met Aang in the ice burg that it was her obligation to follow him into anything, and to help bear the burden of the world.
“Come on it is getting dark and we had better go further down the river to make camp. At least before Zuko wakes up,” Sokka said still hugging his sister as they awkwardly tried to walk to Appa.
“Sokka, you can let go of me now,” Katara whispered patting his arm still wrapped around her neck.

“That’s it! We are not letting them get away again. From now on I do not care if the Avartar comes back alive or dead. He will be mine,” Azula said, her rage was now flowing over like a volcano.
“That is what you always say,” Mai whined under her breath.
“Mai, if you wish to be the one we hunt instead feel free to let me know. Otherwise I am sure you would agree that my father would make the same decision,” Azula haughtily challenged Mai.
The two exchanged glances of their own rage, but were suddenly interrupted with another presence. A large figure emerged from the tree line, covered in sweat, his grey hair stuck to the back of his neck. Iroh bent over placing his hands on his knees, he panted heavily almost collapsing from the lack of oxygen. But this was not his greatest concern, as he feared there sat Azula, eyeing him down. But no captured Zuko, no Katara, perhaps this was also partially a relief to the old General.
“The Dragon of the West, he will do for now,” Azula smirked speaking to herself.

Ok readers bad news. My life has suddenly turned into chaos. I have this story on many other sites, and I have found that I simply do not have the time to update on them. I will, however, continue to update on FF.net. There you can find the story, and other ones that I have written. I am up to chapter 14 on this site. Here is the link. www.fanfiction.net/secure/live_preview.php?storyid=3209166Please do not be upset, I know that I have only posted the first 9 chapters on here, but combined with some of the other sites, I just can't go on updating. But rest assured that the story will go on, and someway I will find the time to finish it. Things just seem to go against me! But please continue to read this story, just on the other site. Thank you so so much! Sayuri P.S. Mods, please do not delete this, at least for a little while so that those who do read this story will know my reason for leaving and where to find my story. At least give this time to be seen, then you can do whatever you please with this. Gracias!
