Hey everyone! Well seeing as this is my first FF, I figured I would get it out there and see what people think. You might have read this on a couple of other sites, but the name here is different. This story's former name was My Way My Rules, but as I keep on going with the plot, it was not a fitting name. Anywho, please feel free to give constructive critism, it really helps!
Chapter 1.
“Zuko you have dishonored your father, your country, and yourself. I can no longer be with you, I will not be known as a traitor. You must find the Avatar on your own, I am going home… Without you,” as Uncle Iroh’s voice trailed off in the distance. Zuko woke up to a sweat panting heavily.
It was just a dream... Wasn’t it?
Zuko crept out of the cave that he and Uncle Iroh had been taking refuge in, attempting not to disturb the peacefully snoring Iroh. The sun had not risen yet, and Zuko sat his legs dangling over a ledge by the mouth of the deep cave. Shivering slightly he rubbed his arms for warmth and looked on to the deep forest that surrounded the area. The harsh words of Uncle Iroh still were ringing in his head… I am going home… Without you.
Home.
This was one of Zuko’s worst nightmares. Not only because the continuous reminder of him being dishonored, but knowing that going home seemed forever out of his grasp. But also the fact that his Uncle who he had grown to love and trust would call him a traitor was not so comforting. The thought of home never left his mind, the thought of his father as well.
Why do I even care about going home now? No one misses me… I wonder if they even notice that I am gone. Why should I even try? Do I even want to go home anymore? Zuko sighed deeply, inhaling the fresh scent of pine. Then it finally hit him. Listen to me! What am I saying? Of course I want to go home! I am a Fire Nation prince, and I have a duty to my people.
Zuko felt as if he could have smacked himself in the head, but still in the back of his mind questioned himself. He continued to play the dream over and over in his head; it haunted his thoughts. Now hearing the rustling of Iroh Zuko became aware that it was now sunrise.
“Prince Zuko, what are you doing up so early on such a beautiful morning like this?” Iroh asked as he walked out of the mouth of the cave while scratching his morning itches eagerly.
“I just needed some time to think, go back to sleep Uncle,” Zuko said cool and calmly not turning to see his uncle.
“Why? With a morning like this one should rise with the sun and a nice hot cup of Jasmine tea! Would you like a cup?” Iroh asked curiously trying to read his nephews thoughts.
“No Uncle, I don’t like tea,” Zuko said still looking into the hypnotizing woods, his voice almost irritated with his Uncle’s constant asking.
“Suit yourself, your loss,” Iroh grinned and he shot a flame with two fingers to the pile of sticks in the cave instantly igniting a small fire.

“Surrender yourself, and I promise I will let her go. Fight back and she will be burned,” Zuko screamed to the Avatar grabbing Katara roughly by the neck swinging her in front of him.
Katara's limp body dangled in the strong hold of the Fire Nation prince, she looked and felt utterly helpless.
“Aang don’t listen to him!” Katara begged; Zuko had grabbed her hair forcing her head back and neck vulnerable to injury. “I promise I will be ok; you can’t let the world down by surrendering yourself for just one person! Don’t do it. I will be ok… I will be ok,” Katara pleaded with him trying to reach out for Aang.
As Zuko tightened his grip around Katara he jerked her around like a toy doll. Zuko then seeing this wasn’t doing anything he heated his hand, which was aimed right at her neck. Looking to Katara, then to the others, Aang turned and let him take her.
Katara’s face was distraught; Aang had actually given up, even though she had told him to not surrender. Katara never imagined he would let Zuko actually take her.
“Your loss Avatar, now you will never see this water peasant again,” Zuko warned as he ran off with Katara in his grasp.
Watching her be dragged off Sokka and Toph stood there with their mouths dropped wide open at the choice that the Avatar had made.
“Katara I will find you!!” Aang screamed out in his sleep.
“What? Aang wake up wake up, are you ok?” Katara shook him her eyes widened and fully of worry.
“Oh, it was just a bad dream, I guess,” Aang shrugged it off, not realizing the look of terror on his face.
“Oh meat, oh fruit, oh food! Wait! Oh no! Momo is eating it all! Bad flying monkey, weird thing! Momo you can’t that’s my food! My food!” Sokka screamed while chewing on his sleeping bag.
“I guess you’re not the only one having a bad dream,” she giggled. Her sweet smile then turned to concern, her eyes softened.
“Want to talk about it?” Katara’s sweet voice had changed tone into a maternal quality, her eyes pierced right through his thoughts.
Katara reached her arm out to give him some kind of comfort, but Aang just turned away to return to some form of sleep.
“No, I’m ok,” Aang lied.
Let’s hope that never really happens. What was I thinking letting him take Katara?
Aang’s worst nightmare was loosing Katara, and the fact that he gave up so willingly in his dream bothered him. His stomach twisted with discomfort at the thought. Aang sat looking to the starry night knowing it would be day soon. He thought about everything and even about his enemy Zuko. Why he wanted to catch him so bad, why he wouldn’t just let go.
I guess I will just never know.
The troubled Avatar tossed and turned constantly struggling to sleep throughout the rest of the night.

Well that is chapter one, there is a lot more, and the plot becomes pretty deep, but I like taking it a little slow. I am a person of detail when i write! So be patient, but it will unfold itself, and trust me this and the second chapters are my shortest... So there will be more to this story. Well, I think that is it, and remember I am totally fine with critism! Thanks!
