Title: Night Sky
Rating: K
Summary: Last night, Aang looked up and matched each star to a reason why he loved a special someone. He was doing great, until he ran out of stars.
As the young man looked up at the starry night’s sky, he sat down, setting his gray eyes on the stars that were gleaming above him. Each star was clearly discernable against the inky black sky; people could spend at eternity just counting them.
The young man, who was lying on the silky grass, was none other then the avatar himself.
He lay there thinking about his last defeat, but also found himself counting the stars. He raised his hand as he pointed to one of the stars above him, making his pale skin glow against the moonlight.
“Your beautiful smile, one that always makes me feel as if there are no troubles left in this world.” Aang said in a hushed tone as he resumed his search for the stars,
“Your silky brown locks,” he said as he pointed as another one, keeping the image of the young women in his mind.
“Aang, may I join you?” Called a voice from behind, As Aang sat up from his previous position he turned around to see a young Waterbender.
“Sure, Katara.” Aang said as he lay down on the grass and turned his attention back to the night sky. Katara gazed at the young Avatar for moments. She cared deeply for him, and she knew something was wrong.
“Katara, did you know that if you truly love someone, you can match each star to a reason why you love them?” Aang asked as he turned his gaze to the beautiful Waterbender. There was silence for a moment or two, as Katara continued to stare at her dear companion, but turned her gaze to the inky sky.
“No, I didn’t,” She murmured, “are you counting the stars Aang?”
Aang’s gaze stared into Katara’s blue peaceful eyes,
“I was, but I ran out of stars.” Aang said humbly, as he turned away from Katara, there was another long silence as Katara switched her gazes from the beautiful night sky to Aang. Searching for the right words to say.
“Aang, who are you in love with?” She asked him in a voice that seemed as quiet as a whisper, as her cheeks reddened.
“You have to find out on your own. It is not that complicated.” He said not even bothering to look back at her saddened face.
“Oh, okay.” She said, as she got up she thought he wanted to be alone for a little while, so she went back to her brother and Toph. As Katara walked away, Aang pointed at the star he had already matched a reason to.
“Even though I have already matched a reason to you, I shall say another.” And as Aang continued to point at the star he spoke in a hushed tone.
“Someday I shall tell you how much I love you Katara.” He then closed his eyes, and rested in the silky grass as the light of the stars shined.
