the previous airbending avatar probably wasnt a monk because if you look at all of the guys at the temple, they were bald. The past airbender avatar that was shown had long black hair That's because it was an Airbender NUN. A female.

Actually, since the next Avatar is born after the last one, there is no way that any living person is the next Avatar when one dies/born.
That was a girl. The eastern and western temples are girls only, as the nothern and sountern ones are guys only (and they all have bald heads). Since that airbending Avatar had hair, she was a girl.
They're talking about Aang in the opening theme, even though they show Roku. I don't know why either.

I was just wondering, why is it that there are more male Avatars than female Avatars? At first, I thought it was also going in a cycl - for example, the unnamed fire nation avatar is followed by a female air nomad, then the water tride male avatar and then Kyoshi and Roku. But Aang is obviously male and he was after Roku. Not only that, but looking at the small figures during the lineup, there does seem to be more males than females. I wonder why that is? Any theories?

Maybe it just seems like there are more guy Avvies than girl ones. Although the ones they showed us (including Aang) makes it seem like the guys outnumber the girls, we don't know for sure. It could be even, it could be a slight advantage, or one gender can be rare compared to another.

In the picture with all the Avatars lined up, is that Kyoshi next to Roku? Because Kyoshi lived 300 years ago, and Ruko 100 (appox).

The next Avatar would have to be the next nation in the cycle- in this case Water. If you look closely at the pics- it goes Water, Earth, Fire, Air. I think it's even mentioned in the first episode about the possibility of the "Cycle" being broken with all the Air Nomads gone. those Fire Nation people were sly in picking that time to attack- and which nation to attack first.

i think you should think about. "does the avatar cycle broken?" why because there is no other any airbender left (think the name of the cartoon Avatar the last airbender) and what if aang dies and the avatars after him dies earth, water and fire what will happen when cycle comes to air?

If the card game is an indicator, there are some surprises waiting for us...besides, Aang is a man **cough, cough** in his prime, he can still resurect the Airnomads, and in 300 years nobody will ever be the wiser...only wether they are true airbenders or have the occasional throwback water- or earthbender crop-out... LOL!

Is it just me or did the Monks want to send Aang to the Eastern Air Temple to finish his training, which presents a problem with the whole nun location idea.
Abbot: But what we need is what?s best for the world. (Looking down for a moment before raising his head to continue) You and Aang must be separated. The Avatar will be sent away to the Eastern Air Temple to complete his training.- From the transcripts at AvatarSpirit.net
Maybe the Air Temples were for monks only and there are Monasteries or something for the Nuns.
As for why there are more Male Avatars then Female avatars, My conclusion would be that it would have to somehow tie in with the tradition of Male Waterbenders being warriors and female W.b. being healers. I think that they would have to make an exception for the Female Avatars, but it would go smoother if the Avatar was a male.
