I think the greater mystery is, how would a governor's daughter learn to fight like that? And WHY?? And to those people who thought she was another possible ship for Zuko... After seeing the eps. I have to disagree. She had more of a mischievous look to her smile more than anything else. Most likely the three of them ganged up on him and picked him to death when they were younger. ;D LOL I'm not alone! I knew they bullied Zuko... and Mai has to have had a target for her daggers... xD

she reminds me of a girl that moved into my town during out senior year of high school...she loathed it too...had the same attitude, because she was taken away from what she was used to...she didn't want to make a lot of friends, date, or hang out at all up here...and she took the same attitude with her sister...the rivilry thing going on...

I've considered the idea of an antagonistic relationship between Mai and Zuko too (I'm actually writing it into the fic I'm working on. You know, when I'm not being freaked out by the fact that I am writing ANOTHER fic about Mai when I just finished one.) and I think it's an interesting possibility. However, I don't really think that's how the canon is going to play out. The smirk can be read in a lot of ways, but just based on the fact that it was Ty Lee who makes a point of mentioning Zuko to Mai with a smile on her face makes it come off as pure "teasing a friend about a crush" to me. It helps that I can't imagine Ty Lee being one to enjoy bullying someone, or looking forward to getting back to bullying someone/watching someone get bullied. There was also the cute little sound effect...which, I have no idea what it meant but whatev I'd be more inclined to believe that the canon will reveal Mai bullied Zuko if it had been Azula that made reference to his history with Mai.

Oh dear jelly beans you've written a Maiko fic already?! xD *goes to read*
And yeah, I agree with you. Maiko's not really one to play out with me also. Yes, a crush is definitely present, but I dunno, I've got this silly theory that it could be Zuko's rejection of Mai that made her all pessimistic and angsty. But that's just overspeculation. ;D

XD Mai being pesstimistic...I'd sort of like it if it was a natural part of her- that sort of thing doesn't always need a reason, right? X) Argh. Mais taking a beating-just like Song. X( Back to the reserved board. X)

Breathing, I don't think gotter and babbs aren't giving your new ship a chance. I believe that all they're stating is that *at this point* the pairing seems unlikely. But that's to any ship--any ship is unlikely until some interaction can be seen.
I think that if Mai and Zuko have some interaction in the future, maybe one of their viewpoints might change. ;D

*Sigh* I know. X) Thanks. I just saw a lot of it for Soko, Taang- a chance is all I'm pretty much asking for. XD Nothing permanent yet...
Although I think the shipping talks are wearing me out. X( I think I'll drink Irohs tea~! *Sips*
XD It's no problem though- don't mean to come off tense. ^^; No bad energy here or anything...X)
Mais character is- oh, you all ready know what I think, right? XD *Sips*

I wasn't even saying that. I was saying that I think the chances of their relationship being bullying/purely antagonistic are slim. In other words, while I don't mind writing about all the possibilities, I think that her having a crush on him, or even maybe there having been something reciprocal between them in the past is the likeliest canon outcome, because I read Ty Lee's insinuation and Mai's grin as being about Mai having a crush on Zuko. I wouldn't say that I seriously ship them yet, because I've never seen them interact. But I can safely say that if there's anything even vaguely shippy going on when they do interact on the show, I'll be all over it. mai - Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it!

It's okay!
I have a bad habit of writing very long and unnecessarily dense sentences.
Mea culpa!

Quick thought - Tom-Tom is obviously much younger than Mei, right? Well, it's in my experience that people have children one right after another - also, Mei is a girl, and someone (a male) needs to inherit the title, so her father and mother wouldn't wait a decade for another child. Also, the woman was very dramatic, and Mei is very reserved. With that in mind, I think that Mei's 'mother' is her stepmother. So... Discuss.

That could be a possiblity; but Mais father isn't on the throne- he's a General, isn't he? I don't think that's a position you inherit....

Traditionally, noblemen inherit their land/wealth/title from their fathers. You're right - you don't inherit a military position, but you would inherit property. I'm assuming that Mai's father is a nobleman because Ozai probably wouldn't give a commoner a position as governor, especially over a city as important as Omashu - unless, as you speculate, he is a General. But in that case, he would probably be out fighting the Earth Kingdom, or at least close to Ozai to advise him.
