Zuko takes much responcibility for his young age. The scene in the warroom in "the Storm", commanding a whole crew on a simingly impossible journey or standing up for the kid that is bullied around by EK soldiers. Zukos is mature. He had some problems with his FN royality attitude, but the humble life of a refugee helped him to get over it. Zuko is desperate. He wants to get home, but constantly faces the fact that his father doesn't love him enough to accept him back. Everyone complains about Zuko whining or emoing, but getting scarred and humiliated by your own father is pretty heavy. To which characters past can we actually compare that? Aang ran away himself from the AN temple, because he was afraid of his duty as the Avatar and thought that it takes all his friends away from him. Zuko was not afraid to face his responcibility in the warroom, but it was Aang, who got a replacement for his past family "immediately", whereas Zukos father punished him for speaking the truth. Zuko is constantly put into extreme situations, which make him even more desperate like becoming a refugee by the begining of season 2. It doesn't make him childish that he reacts even more desperate under these circumstances, but only human. I think, if we "understand" Aang acting selfish by refusing to clear the last chakra, because of his crush on Katara, we should also understand that Zuko has a hard time to aknowledge that his father will never accept him home. Atleast giving up a first love is waaaay easier then your own father imho.

He is short tempered but that doesn't really mean he's immature. He is only 16. Well said trustno1.

The ages of them all is ridiculous. Like Ash Ketchum being ten. It's just like "kids should watch shows about kids their age" and then completely make the viewers expectations of themselves unreasonable. Aang saved the world when he was 12-13 so what have I been doing with my life? I don't really care though, I just feel like posting a lot now.

I guess this posting isn't really for you, Nymph, but for those who may actually be feeling the feelings you described. It's true that these "kids" act much older than the "average" kid the same age. However, there aren't many "kids" that were forced into the circumstances that they were. I think that Bryke did a decent job of trying to keep them "kids", but I will say that there is something to be said about the mature qualities that hardship and extreme circumstances bring to a person. Is it "ridiculous"? Well, when comparing any animated show with reality, the animated show typically loses in the "real" category. But that's what makes animation great: stuff can happen there that can't happen here. I mean, really, what would A:tLA be if they all just decided to give up and leave the war to the adults? Personally, I found the series encouraging rather than discouraging. We learned through the series that all the characters, for all their abilities, had flaws and weaknesses- no one was (is) "better" than another. We also learn a lot about perseverance- moving on despite those flaws and weaknesses- and what can be accomplished despite hardship. Take for example: "The Desert". What was it that got the Gaang through the desert? Was it Toph's, Aang's, or Katara's bending that got them through? Well, it helped... a little... but what ultimately got them to survive that encounter was Katara's resolve-- not her bending. And ALL of us can have resolve. Anyway... I'm with you on the posting thing, Nymph. Thanks for giving me an excuse.
