If I remember correctly, it takes around 9 months to create one episode of Avatar from storyboard to the episode we see on Nick, so I'm sure they're well into the animation process. I can't say without a doubt though that there's one full/complete episode, however.

According the Mike and Bryan from here (http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2011/03/08/the-last-airbender-legend-of-korra-the-creators-speak/)
Michael DiMartino: We are in the midst of the first twelve episodes. We’ve written all the episodes. Episodes have shipped to the overseas animations studios and they’re animating away as we speak. So we’re kind of in the middle of things right now…All the vocal cast has been picked and recorded and all the scripts have been recorded.
This was back in March 8 of this year, so at the very least from this statement we can infer that the first-12 episodes are currently in the animation process and the storyboarding, writing, and recording have already finished. It's possible the production team is already hard at work getting the remaining 14 episodes ready for the animators once the first 12 episodes are ready to release. All told this puts the time table squarely within the projected estimates of the team that they should have the series (at least the first half ) ready by summer or early fall of 2012.

I wonder how Nick is planning on airing these episodes once they're finished in 2012? Will they drag out the series or air two per night for a week? We can assume that the next 14 are in the early stages of production - I hope that doesn't mean a ridiculous hiatus between the two halves!

They might air 2 for the premiere and finale, and maybe for a special weekend or so, but I don't expect them to do 2 a night. I would expect a few breaks in between episodes, though.

Could it not have a regular, one-night-a-week timeslot? That'd keep in going for quite some time and give then time to complete all the episodes and therefore not be forced into a hiatus.

Despite all our wishes to the contrary, it's very likely that the show might suffer a hiatus between episodes. This is based on the teams track record for seemingly putting the show on hiatus fairly regularly in the middle of the season, for whatever reason was valid at the time.

This is what I was thinking. I totally agree. If they air just one a week, in a regular time slot, like most other shows, it will be much better. That will keep it going for about 26 (I think?) weeks, which is around 6 and a half months, or so, I believe. That is plenty of time.

One of the Comic Con panels has already started, and a new Korra print was handed out -- Korra riding a giant Polar Bear dog! You can see it on Amira's SDCC Tumblr here! In the early Aang development sketches, Aang had a small polar bear dog, so it's cool to see the creature return. I wonder if this will be the spirit animal for the Water Tribes, or something less specific.

Search twitter for #AppamobileAtKorra for a feed that was live from the panel of all the news. It's a little spastic but it's out right now.

Wow, lots of new Korra information out! Seems like it was an awesome SDCC panel. Here is a round-up of the info via various Twitter feeds, thanks to JennySDCC, AllAboutManga, Bodici22, and everyone else who live-reported back from there! Quick Links for Visuals: HD Korra Trailer: Youtube HD Trailer Screenshots: 50: Photobucket, 390: AWS-Icons @ LJ High-Quality Character & Concept Art: Amira Photobucket, TheGadgetFish Martial Arts Demo video: Youtube Recorded Korra SDCC Panel: Youtube. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5. Since these might be considered spoilers, I'll put these under the cut for now. Highlight to see 'em! * The city is now called United Republic, and was founded by Aang and Zuko after the war. *There's a statue of an adult Aang in the city. *There are battle arenas in the city called Pro Bending - it's a very popular sport. * Pro Bending teams are made of three benders (of one each element) and battle against other teams. *Bryan wrote the rulebook for it. *The music concept is, "what if 1920's New Orleans' jazz was invented in China instead" *The clothing is inspired by the 1920s and the Industrial Revolution.
* The two guys traveling with Korra are brothers, named Mako and Bolin! Mako is a firebender, and Bolin is an earthbender. *Mako is brooding (but not as much as Zuko), and definitely was named after Uncle Iroh's passed voice actor. *Bolin is younger, goofier. Kind of naive. Incorporates the original idea for Toph's character. *Mako's hair goes forward while Bolin's hair is pushed back.
*Korra's Polar bear dog is a girl and named Naga. Naga's back legs are different from the front legs; can be bipedal. *Bolin has a Red panda/black footed Ferret creature named Paboo. SO CUTE. Known as a Fire Ferret.
*Aang found a herd of Sky Bison after the war. The new sky bisons have an updated look, slightly different from Appa. * There's also a new specie of flying lemur. They won't be seen much in Season 1, but will be in Season 2.
*Aang and Katara had three kids! The youngest is Tenzin, an airbender. *Tenzin is old in the series, and has three airbending kids of his own. *Tenzin is very serious, but when his kids are crazy, he can be really funny. Tries to be the "zen master" but loses his patience sometimes. *Jinora is Tenzin's oldest child, is a bookworm. *Ikki is the middle child, talks really fast, and is 'fun and crazy.' *Meelo is his youngest son. *Tenzin's wife is named Pema, she is not a bender. She may be pregnant.
*Toph traveled the world to teach earthbenders Metalbending. It was rare, but those who did make up an elite police force in Republic City. * The metalbending cops have a spool of wire on their back, so they can zip around the city. *Toph's daughter is the Chief of Police! No word on who the daddy is.
*The anti-benders are called The Equalists. They all wear masks. *The revolutionary leader is named Oman. * His followers use Chi-Blocking! Paraphrased quotes from the panel, probably from Mike and Bryan: "Wanted to give it a more sophisticated look..were put off at the idea of doing a new series, but then they started getting ideas and really pumped, especially in ways to differentiate Korra from Aang" On Korra: "Wanted her tough...Thought of her as a snowboarder" "Korra is supposed to be a badass super heroine. Except not scantily clad." "Our goal was to break all the conventions of female superheroes." "In the old series...I go back and the heads are so big. It's kind of funny." "Our goal is to make everything better."

Watching all those Twitter posts come in as the panel was going on was great; felt like I was almost there. xD There's so much info to process too, it's amazing, I didn't expect there to be so much. And thanks Seabiscuit for the trailer grabs! I can't believe how gorgeous this show is, it's blowing my mind. This is going to be so awesome.
